In my opinion, Apple has been a fashion company ever since the iPod. Remember the white earbud commercials? They've positioned themselves as a luxury brand, where it is considered fashionable among the general population to visibly ow

A big difference is that the benefits of quality programmers manifest over long projects. With many other industries, you can say "Do this" in a shorter, observable time frame and have it more aligned with what they'll be fac

"Years from now, we’ll look back at the 2015 developer interview as an anachronism..." People were saying similar things 20 years ago, too. Others will likely corroborate that from earlier.

In particular, view your freelancing as a service organization and partner/contract/hire a salesperson to generate and/or convert leads. Offer a commission on your revenue. We've done that before with a few jobs, and h

I project the opposite way, though I know I might be in the stark minority: My perception of the cost of text messaging for something which requires a dialogue on a portable device is unnecessarily high, compared to a less than 1 minute p

I'm not talking about cdr-coding, but simply the placement of regular 2-element cons cells and/or their contents next to each other in memory. This is often a "happy accident" side-effect when copying collectors fill th

Regarding iteration: First, if something within an iteration calls out and performs memory allocation, well the first thing is that microoptimizations are likely to be dwarfed anyway. :) But most of the GCs I've worked with do not use

If you have a constrained situation such that the iteration is known over a range of fixed-type consecutive data, any language should be able to generate the exact same optimized assembly as a manual C++ vector iteration. Also, if it's

The cache locality of linked list cells is a red herring. Garbage collectors seek to keep chained cons cells consecutive in memory. Also, does the author not understand that most Common Lisp implementations are already built on assemblers
