Hey all, I published a documentary yesterday called "Gift Community: A Story About Open Source." I visited the Open Source community in Los Angeles, Denmark, India ... and, yes, Ukraine. I met Poul-Henning Kamp, Mitchell Hashimoto

I received an email from OSI on February 14 that clearly indicates UTC. It looks like the message was sent to all OSI members. Did Luke not get this email? Details: https://openpath.quest/2025/luke-missed-the-memo/

Yes that's it, no minimum company size to participate. The reason to use $/dev as a metric is that it gives us some hope of comparing across companies of different sizes, though we do acknowledge different cohorts on e.g. the Memb

Agreed. When it first came out in January, I did a write-up and emailed Frank for comment. It wasn't until both my critique and his paper appeared together on HN for the first time that he responded ... with a total non-answer. :rollin

Sentry's experience suggests otherwise, as 10,000+ users from hobbyists up to FAANG companies have been using Sentry under Fair Source terms for five years now. https://openpath.chadwhitacre.com/2024/widespread-use

In addition to our 100,000 SaaS customers, we also have 10,000+ (unmonetized) self-hosted users: https://openpath.chadwhitacre.com/2024/widespread-use-of-a-f... Fair Source is working quite well for us. You should try

One big reason we don't use AGPL at Sentry is that we want companies to be able to self-host individually (just not start a competing SaaS), and many have a blanket ban on AGPL.

Yes! We aim to launch https://fair.io/ next month to promote the term Fair Source for this purpose. Early feedback is guardedly positive, e.g., ESR's take was "very clever." https://openpath.chadwh
