Here's the strong statement of the idea: "enable companies to sponsor people" https://github.com/whit537/www.gittip.com/issues/106 At some point the question becomes, why not just take a job at a company with a strong "open-source time" c

As mentioned it's skewed towards Python because that's the community where I've been most active and have the most connections. I've started getting to know the Ruby community here in Pittsburgh and would love to branch out further. If you

The challenge is preserving "no-strings-attached." One idea would be to allow gifts up to 5% of the total or something like that. Ticketed: https://github.com/whit537/www.gittip.com/issues/266

I'd love to find a way for Gittip ( http://gittip.com/about ) to help you fund Watsi.org. The "public benefit corporation" sounds like what I was aiming at with open companies: http://blog.gittip.com/post/26350459746/the-first-open-compa..

The data is actually in JSON if you want to do your own visualization. :-) https://www.gittip.com/about/paydays.json You can view source on charts.html for example usage.

Thanks for asking. The payins side has settled, yes. We now have all but three stragglers moved from Stripe to Balanced, and the stragglers are likely bad cards. The next three priorities are: 1. Payouts: https://github.com/whit537/www.git

Do I understand you right that you're offering me a gift of $1,000? If so, thank you! Let's handle that via PayPal or check. For PayPal let's use mammon@whit537.org, or you can mail a check to: Chad Whitacre 716 Park Road Ambridge, PA 15003

Re: Aspen ... thank you. :-) I'm told in Finland everyone's income is public. http://re-iq.blogspot.com/2006/08/transparency-in-cold-light... Surely opinions differ on whether that's good or bad. If you think it's bad then Gittip is proba

Prioritizing development tasks has not been a pain point so far with Gittip. I get plenty of feedback here on HN and on Twitter and GitHub and otherwise, and the fact that feedback is not directly tied to dollars has not been an issue.

The idea is for gifts to be no-strings-attached. Not knowing who exactly your donors are means you're more free to pursue your own vision rather than someone else's. The idea is that you're being productive on your own terms, and "society"
