   Past experience shows that if someone explicitly asks for information about extracting text from PDFs that their source material is probably in PDF format.

   I don't think the point was that the solution was difficult to implement technically. Rather that it was a clever solution to some very specific restrictions from a legacy system. A nice example of "thinking outside of the box" if you like.

   There's no rule that says you have to generate leads for yourself - you could probably turn some money referring leads to other developers who you rate highly enough to recommend.
