Something I've always wanted from gitignore: a way to ignore changes to a file that is already present in the repo . So, for example, I can commit a config file that should contain secure credentials with the credentials redacted, a

I had a sugery for a common issue performed, as it happens, by the ex head of some surgeons union type organisation in my country (Ireland). The established technique has an uncommon but not so uncommon tendency to have issues where you jus

This feels really pointless. If I can create /.git, I have root already. Any other parent-directory-escalation that I can think of would be so obscure as to be not worth caring about, and would also probably require having access to an

Well the linux ptoject does just fine without strict aliasing based optimisations. Pretty much everything on windows is built with msvc, which doesn't depend on strict aliasing for optimisation either.

Well, reality is many real world projects depend on it. Eg linux, disables strict aliasing. IMO the strict aliasing rule is a mistake, people know how the code should behave, so it should behave as expected.

What about inside the implementation of a sorting routine? Or the move assign operator of a smart pointer? There are plenty of legitimate reasons to swap variables, not everyone is making a crud app.

I never understood why stock coolers have to be so bad. It's not like intel or amd don't have the engineering ability to do the same kind of work noctua does, so why don't they?

I gotta say, if I was the BDFL of llvm, I would kick this out of tree without a second thought. Why on earth should a foss project support a private architecture? How many man-hours have been wasted waiting for the Lanai backend to compile?

100%, the c++ style casts are huge and unwieldy to type. Also, for casting between integer types, you can actually reverse the bracketing so it looks like a nice clean conversion function. Eg, these two expressions are the same: int32_t(x);
