But imagine the backlash if Google announced that you'd not be able to appear in its search results if you used any advertising platform but theirs. It's completely unimaginable. This is what I find frightening about the changing landscape

I don't see any reason why ActiveX couldn't be bolted on to Webkit. As for backward compatibility they update their engine all of the time; perhaps quirks mode could be left as the old engine.

-Microsoft IS NOT going to suggest that people download Firefox or Chrome. I really don't understand the benefit of IE having its own rendering engine . While I can't imagine MS abandoning IE, I can't see any business reason (other than

Perhaps the "Joan Baez" should be removed from the title. I clicked thinking it was a folk singer talking about politicized mathematics.

Currently the DE API doesn't have the concept of things decaying over time (though there are some kludgy work-arounds that a couple folks are using), but we've got a customer of some significance that specifically needs that feature, so it'

I'll put forward a more blunt answer: because Rubinius is the only tenable way forward, long-term, for Ruby. MRI is a steaming pile. (Note: You're not allowed to disagree with this unless you're a C programmer that's spent some quality t

I'd be surprised if that's what happened. I suspect this is just another unrealistic number that's the same proportion of reality as the previous numbers. That said, when I'm traveling and going for extended battery life (read: trans-atlan

The only reason I wasn't hoping for that is because I intend to stuff a 512 GB aftermarket SSD into my next MBP and I'd rather not pay through the nose for Apple's upgrade option.

Color me disappointed. I was hoping for: • Ditching the optical media for longer battery life • 4 cores in the 13" • Max RAM of 12 GB (this one isn't listed ... maybe?) • The higher resolution 1440x900 resolution in the 13" that the Macboo

I have no idea when the YC founders actually sold their Yahoo stock, but when Viaweb was bought, in an all stock deal, at the beginning of June 1998, YHOO was trading at $7/share. Two years later, around the time they left, it was at $70/s

Hmm, for some reason they forgot to include: You sell your company for $50 million in Yahoo stock, which over the course of your two year tenure at Yahoo will see a tenfold increase in value up to $500 million and your team will use that w

What was missing were compelling nominees for the executive board. I'd thought that e.g. Haavard Nord (former Trolltech CEO that took the company public, investor and on several small boards) would have made an interesting nomination. (Th

I wonder how the number sited there is calculated. Nokia's 2010 revenues were $58 billion, whereas the Finish GDP was $240 billion.

Sure, but if you're asking, "Why wouldn't they leave?" for a lot of folks, "I'd get to work on more interesting projects" doesn't trump, "I'd have to move my family to a different country."

Because there isn't really anyone to defect to in Finland? Just to get a sense for the dominance of Nokia in the Finish economy – Nokia is a full quarter of Finland's GDP.

Right, that's a great example. Do that, but manage to pair people off a bit. Not a "date" of course; just happens to be a person of the opposite gender that some mix of automatic and hand-picked shuffling thought you'd find interesting.

Make it exclusive and hip. To me, at present, dating sites seem to signal some degree of desperation. I suspect that is very common and why a lot of folks won't use them. I'm not going to go on a "date" with someone from a dating site be
