   The reason Linux does not show up on those lists is because Linux uses Hi Res timers which make it impossible to guess to uptimes from tcp timestamps. See http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/accuracy.html#hz1000

   That does not do what you think it does. Your command will make /path/to/logfile fill up all available space on the disk. To truncate that file, which is probably what you wanted to do, you should `echo > /path/to/logfile`
