Now this thread has been pg-jacked, I can't help but feel that the submitter's unashamed plug for swig! has severely backfired. No doubt when instacart sorts out the regulatory hurdles involved in alcohol sales they'll have a bunch more sub

I upvoted your comment because I agreed with it, but then realised my upvote was for the wrong reasons. On a side note - I think "in good conscience" is the more appropriate phrase in this circumstance.

Upvoted for quoting Frank Herbert. So much interesting (sometimes convincing, often troubling) political philosophy in his books. Recommended reading.

So very refreshing to see a response to a (self-acknowledged) lack of citation which is helpful and advances the discussion rather than snarky or negative. I very much appreciate the high quality of discourse hn makes possible (despite the

If people weren't eating up your "stealing a car" example, I doubt the "violently kidnapping and holding for ransom" example will fare any better. How about this: a young woman has a sick child in a jurisdiction without universal health car

Given that people already spend multiples of ten thousand dollars to fly it in greater comfort at "normal" speeds, I suspect there is already a significant market.

To be fair, that is for return shipping on two kits (you have to send the kit back to them for testing). That said, hopefully they do some A/B testing on shipping prices next ;)

Given that technology is supposed to increase efficiency (meaning fewer can do the work of more) I'm not sure that jobs are a great measure of educational success, or even the ideal goal of education. We've seen the transition from almost a

A few hundred dollars spent in conference with a lawyer who specialises in trade mark law will let you know your options. A good investment in my view... in many jurisdictions there are penalties for falsely alleging trade mark infringement

For those who haven't seen the film in question, there are some pretty serious spoilers. Perhaps a spoiler tag would be appropriate?

I know your comment was facetious, but having completed law school and being a lawyer are not the same thing. If the barista at Starbucks tried to give you legal advice they would likely be breaking the law themselves.

Maybe I'm showing my hn colours, but I'm surprised by no mention of SOPA/PIPA. I would have thought broad policies which have already been introduced as bills during the last term in office would be more significant to technology than poten

The actual numbers here are irrelevant; gp was providing a hypothetical in which it makes sense to sell a stock. If exaggerated numbers make the hypothetical concept easier to grasp I don't think it detracts from the example to use them.
