Cool. I completely agree that using PHPBB for a startup blog would be "strange".

Is hashmonitor open source or going to be open sourced? Seems like it would be a really useful contribution to the JS development community to make this available for everyone to use.

We've made it possible for users to opt-in to show a ribbon to raise awareness until the 24th and blacking out their sites for the protest on Wednesday as well if they want. You can read more here: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/01/18/j

My point is that these interim commits are useful information for other people too not just you. They help show how the feature developed, what other implementation ideas you tried along the way etc.

I completely agree with this. If a change was worth committing then it is worth sharing that commit with everyone. Otherwise you run the very real risk of loosing important information about the design of a feature the bugs that were found

This is cool. Some bugs in the information returned though. For example: http://underthesite.com/technologies/WordPress-Batcache-Plug... "WordPress Batcache Plugin is closed source. " Batcache is Open Source :)

Indeed. This article is more "why C++ makes this particular program easier to write" and is in no way any proof that C++ is better than C.

We have been providing a stable and reliable API for a long time. Just because it doesn't look like how you envisage it should doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Matt's post was true at the time and WordPress.org the open source project has nev

We don't use Smarty for a number of reasons. Anyway PHP is itself designed as a Templating language and works very well. Adding Smarty or any other templating language into the mix just means that users and developers have to learn both PHP

If your interested in a rewrite of WordPress then I'm sure the Habari guys would be interested in your help. They started a while back on doing pretty much just that.

Feed Readers are like mailing lists. You have to scan the subjects and decide if you want to dive in. You don't have to read everything from everyone you subscribe to. Also Hacker News is for me a feed reader - I benefit from everyone else

I just wouldn't want to actively encourage anyone to enter their password in a webpage like that. We need to train people to behave more securely.

I really admire the way Jason and the team have taken on this problem space. They react well to customer feedback and it has been a great experience to watch them grow as a user. I look forward to the next innovations from the team.

So the one "small" hole in the merging infrastructure in subversion is what makes git "shine" above subversion? This issue is well documented and accepted as a deficiency - http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.5/svn.branchmerge.advanced.... P

This is only useful if they don't break extensions on update. Too many firefox extensions don't survive an update. I'm happy for security fixes to get pushed out this way but normal bugfix / feature enhancement releases less so.
