If it’s wildly overdue and only a fraction of what was promised, it’s a significant failure as a product. It might be a great achievement if it hadn’t been hyped up well beyond what has been released

To clarify: I too am not excusing Boeing and think they’re likely a hot trash mess that deserves to have C-levels lose their heads with no golden parachute (or maybe their punishment should be a Boeing-produced parachute)

Along with the very low actual incident rate, grandparent comment also suggests a certain degree of functional organizational coherence which is often wildly missing at large organizations If you ask 50 people at Boeing what happened, you m

This seems like a way to accelerate the move to electric. If you’re giving up the V8 sound and RWD driveline, might as well go electric and get oodles of torque

It’s the worst of both worlds You have to assume an unappealing photo of yourself you posted in your youth is stored somewhere forever And, things you actually want to be stored forever and be retrievable when useful, probably won’t.

I take it one more step: if you step across any of my personal lines, I will stop doing business with you where feasible. For example: - I unsubscribe from your mailing list. But you have another, slightly different one, so I must unsubscri

Agreed. I actually get ads for “start your own drone-based deer recovery business”; this reinforces the idea that you need to stay legal in your state.

This is a big part of it Same reason many areas (eg Alaska) allow you to fly into a hunting area, but not hunt the day you land. Otherwise you could use the plane for locating and/or driving animals fairly precisely

I started scrolling that article to read, and not far into it, 100% of my (mobile) screen was ads. I’m not interested enough in what the article is trying to tell me to put up with that.

> Maybe larger companies have their own infra for this, or have redundancy in place (e.g. their own GPS devices)? Modern trucks have cell modems tied to a private APN that are used for updating vehicle firmware & doing telematics. Th

People would 1000% complain if a search for “skilled scientist” was 90% white men, even if that tracked completely true to statistical reality.

Is mastodon a success? I agree federation is the best strategy (I have a blog and HN and nothing else), but twitter seems to still utterly dominate Add in a really significant requirement for cheap compute, and I don’t know that a federated

Can we trust the media and congress to distinguish the two? So many platforms have come under fire for “supporting” a theme, when all they’ve done in reality is provide media hosting services for user generated content, and %0.001 of bad co

I don’t know that they’d have the skill or patience for this. If you’re running cables to other rooms, they’re not going to start tracing wires everywhere (to potentially find the wire connected to a router anyhow)
