I've had a lot of luck with Adsense in the left column, with similar font and color to the primary content. Click-throughs were twice what they were with the same ad in the right column.

I can't afford a Ferrari, but I can get the best laptop on the market. And that's the Macbook Pro. You may be able to find a better value, but you won't be able to find a better machine. If you have the money, get one.

There are fundamental differences that are more significant than speed or administration. SimpleDB is "eventually consistent" - that is, when you write, a subsequent read might not immediately reflect the change. There's also no such thing

LiveJournal isn't a failure! It has millions of users! It is responsible for substantial open source projects! It pioneered social media! It made a few people rich! I don't drive a Model T, but a lot of people did. Show some respect.

Are their any financial types that have listened to this and can verify their claims? In typical fashion they did a great job with storytelling and production. However, I hear conflicting reports about some of the underlying causes, includi

I'm no stranger. (To the point that I disassociate!) I couldn't agree more on the futility of trying to bend Wikipedia to your will. But I reject the "play along, or else, I don't care" methodology. Democracies are often wrong. We have to h

I'm starting to see Wikipedians as cops with big mustaches. Mostly harmless, generally the good guys, but often symbolically overstepping their bounds. I acknowledge the rigorous formalized system, but even a speedy response does not justif

This would create a feedback loop. Users that exhibited a certain type of behavior would quickly amass a large amount of karma. Unfortunately Pagerank is not inherently resistant to spam. To extend your metaphor, this would be good if we ha

I'm sorry for your loss. Some milestones, perhaps self-imposed professional ones, can wait. Others, like doing well on finals, can't. We all have responsibilities. Prioritize as best you can. Now might be a good time to call in some favors

This seems like a low-end disruptive innovation. Neither 1 or 2 have to be true for the upstart to become a problem. I don't advocate over-allocating resources towards a competitor who may or may not be a threat. But submitter is already lo
