My takeaway from the article was that this was targeted at places where sea water contamination of farmland was a regular event, or where like in the northern areas of the Netherlands, keeping seawater off farmland is unsustainably expensiv

There is an infamous library called dispatch. Someone put together http://www.flotsam.nl/dispatch-periodic-table.html to try and help other developers out when using it. I use it because it is good... but hell. The lack of

Scala gives you an excellent way to go about changing your mindset though. I feel like functional logic at a granular level wrapped in OO structures is a very logical way to go about building the kinds of software that Scala is being used f

Maybe, but it's just a generic statement about programming, it has no real value in a critique of Scala specifically. Part of the beauty of any flexible language is you can go back and refactor it down to a more elegant solution as you

I agree there could be a wide initial spread, but I really feel that it would be contained much more efficiently in, for example, the US or UK than is possible in the outbreak areas of Africa, so the outcome would be a lot less catastrophic

In the UK at least if you walk into a store you will find they have a confusing set of badly specced models of brands you probably shouldn't buy at prices you probably shouldn't pay. I give a lot of credit to Apple in keeping thei

Soda is not in contact with your teeth for long enough to cause any damage, the acidity in basically all fruit would be just as bad by any meaningful measure of harm. Carbohydrate snacks like crisps etc are much worse.

That is one of the stupidest diatribes I have ever read in HN. Success is a thing in of itself, it doesn't require repetition for validation. If notch is in a place where he never needs to meet your criteria of success ever again I
