It's certainly not common, but I had a friend in highschool that took out the front passenger seat of his VW bug, to make it easier to get surfboards into the car. He normally just had a folding chair for passengers.

I'm driving a Subaru Solterra right now, and it has the same kind of knob. I find it awkward as well. But I suspect that safety is the reason for using a rotary knob. I think a simple forward/reverse lever is too easy to accidenta

I think that you're saying that writing code is the same as writing prose. My experience is that, if I write both in the same way, I will fail at both. People just don't read prose to bask in it's technical correctness. Pro

I don't experience writing code as similar to writing prose. Code has a lot of technical constraints, and prose is much more about emotion. I'm not saying they have nothing in common. Code and prose are both written in languages,

I think that older film cameras have a very satisfying-to-use quality to them. I find that an Olympus OM-2 with a good lens feels sooo nice to use. I know, not exactly the same as repairing fine watches, but I think it might be similar.

I think it's a few bucks, relative to the cost of a house. If you're paying for an electrician, you probably own the house. Compared to the cost of a house, a one-time visit by an electrician is a small amount. And running wire in

Don't forget making it safely. It's fairly easy to make something safe it everything goes perfectly. Making it safe in the context of human failings is a whole different thing.

Yeah - I take "I'm sorry you feel that way" as a way of blaming the victim for their feelings, as a subtle way of blaming them for having inappropriate or out-of-control feelings. And sometimes that's true, but, the majo

The original passive-agressive response sucks, because you can't just deal directly with the problem - you have to manage the emotions the other person projects on to the situation. You just have to know the person well enough to tell
