"DTrace has a C-style high level and powerful programming language that allows you to dynamically insert trace points." Yes, that would be the D programming language :)

Indeed. Both falkor and thunderX2 are A64-only. The backwards compatible A32 mode is optional only and not implemented by the ARM server vendors except Ampere eMag.

Is it only me? I think I lost the ability to read cursive handwriting. I tried reading a few pages, and it is really hard for me to follow what is written.

I hope this reduces the "we need donations" banner to an extent. I contribute changes whenever I can, so seeing that banner each and every time is a bit frustrating.

That is the whole point of pricing it so high. They want to move the 1000 series stock of which they are sitting on a huge pile of.

Not entirely unrealistic. Removing the FPU and reducing the width should get it to fit.

I wish it, or a cut down version, would run on a cheaper FPGA (like the Zynq or Zedboard, ~250$). Running on the EC2 F1 instance is not really an option for students given that it costs about ~10$ per day.

and that is where the problem lies. All code is readable if you spend an hour or two. The point is that it is not lucid. You have to strain to understand such code. The issue is people thinking this code is acceptable.

How practical is it to achieve this "harmony" when you are up late at night everyday trying to earn "points" in the latest development cycle? Oh well...

It's a great step towards making these chips more generally available. I am sure they will release a low cost dev board like the rpi pretty soon.

One of the main reasons for speculative execution is to fetch data into the caches ahead of them being needed. If you don't modify the cache, then you throw that away. May be one way would be to use a smaller, separate cache for specul

Someone correct me if I understood this wrong. The way they are exploiting speculative execution is to load values from memory regions which they don't have permission to a cache line, and when the speculation is found to be false, the

Never realized that such a site exists. You should note that the problems listed here might as well be from any other 10000+ employee company. I don't think it is unique to Amazon.

A really interesting idea. Taking feedback from the current execution to drive future scheduling is prevalent in software. Makes sense to push it to hardware too. I wonder how apple is doing hardware managed thread scheduling in the latest

You can now use clang as an alternative compiler in Visual Studio. Other option is to install bash on windows and install gcc/clang and use that.

I am not sure why the developer who has the patch is not able to contribute it back. He first says that he is under NDA, then goes on to say that he wants the community to learn or become better at fixing bugs? Oh well, you come across all

RISC-V is atleast 10 years away from competing with x86 and ARM. It is just now getting to a point where it can power arduino class hardware. Long way to go... but looks promising.
