Impairment is on a continuous scale. Even a totally sober person would have their concentration slightly impaired if say they caught something out of the ordinary in the corner of their eye. If that happens at the wrong time, you have an ac

Reminds me of a recent project we had. The code we wrote came in at about 150k after an npm and bower install it was at 192mb.

Although I did mathematics to degree level, I have used so little of it in my professional career that I have largely forgotten it all now. Any such list is going to depend on what area of programming you want to get into. For a lot of pro

Wow. Was it really that simple? The heart beat request sends the text as well as the length it wants back?

I would say shipping is definitely life improving. Shipping is where you expose your work to the public and open it up to feedback and criticism. You can learn a lot more from direct feedback than you can learn from a general book. I have f

I can't imagine what this guy must be feeling right now. I find it embarrassing enough when I am outed in my small team for producing a bug that makes it into production. To be known around the entire internet to have caused the larges

Code reviews. It surprises me that something as important as OpenSSL doesn't have hundreds of coders studying every check in to find potential bugs, in particular obvious C errors.

I just stick an isDeleted column on my tables. It does mean I have to remember to do a `where !isDeleted` on all my main queries, but apart from that the cost of undoing is incredibly cheap.

I just bought an old ~2008 netbook that came with a fresh install of XP on it. I was shocked at how slow and unresponsive it was. I really don't imagine windows 8 would improve the situation at all, quite the opposite, I suspect the ma
