For whatever reason, search now works. This has been a confounding and annoying experience, but whatever was wrong is not now.

Actually, that was not the correct reply - but it was a swift reply! I ended up using 'bug' and 'search' as tags. I've cooled down considerably now - but as a user, that was a terrible set of experiences that left me very frustrated. Even a

I am a pissed off new user to Area 51. I had an idea for a stackexchange site a while ago - but did not take the time to go and make it. Upon seeing this, I thought "hooray, now I can see if it holds any merit!" So I went to the site. First

While reading, I hit upon this sentence: "Dad’s example made me feel that, if I wanted to write for a living, I had an obligation to try and do it, and I’ve been writing full-time since 1996, when my first novel did well enough to let me qu

The guy who originally devised the algorithm is a professor at the University of Guelph, in Ontario, Canada. He's a pretty interesting professor - escaped from being drafted into the Polish army during World War II, wrote some of TCP at Sta

It sounds like you have some misconceptions about Baumol's Cost Disease. I'm absolutely not intimately familiar with it, but the principle is clearly: 1) Effectiveness increases in one industry. 2) Wages increase accordingly in that industr

The response to this situation is the thing I take most offense with. Google has too long operated on this notion - one we were exposed to in Fight Club, and horrified by - that reaction is an equation of cost. If they're nobody, fuck them.

I think that any programmer worth their weight must disagree with the larger message you're giving here. C does _not_ suck at networking, concurrency, security, or readability. Most code you write in a 'modern language' like Java, Python, o
