Re: Eastern Europe - I was referring to the Pew Research Center survey conducted across 34 European countries in 2015–17. Re: attitudes of younger Jews I'm really referring to Non-Americans (Americans are a special case). With America

Yes, but within Eastern Europe acceptance of Jews is generally higher than acceptance of Muslims, based on polling. Many non-Israeli Jews view Israel's actions as abhorent, particularly younger Jews. Being associated with Israel over t

One pertinent issue is that the US isn't providing billions in arms funding every year for all the others on your list. It's one thing to see bad things happening. It's another to know they are being directly enabled by your

They jumped the shark. You can't openly bomb a bunch of women and children into the dirt, on a daily basis for months and years, and smooth it over with some think tank articles. Might have worked 20 years ago, but not now.

Yep, it's a facsimile of a filtered subset of all human behaviour.

I agree. The end goal is unlimited abundance (for a handful of people). Let's not pretend that capital is actually directly efficiently, tulip.

LLMs traverse an assembled surface of human knowledge. You can't find things on a map that aren't there, but maybe you can draw a route nobody used before.

It isn't an implementation for neurons, unless you believe in a designing god. Matrices are an implementation detail in reconstructing the surface of human knowledge. It's a complex surface, but it's a regurgitation.

It's like Musks duplicitous argument about unlimited abundance. We have a lot of abundance now, we just keep accelerating it all into the hands of fewer and fewer people - whose response is only to want more, and more, and more.

Empirically, yes. You seem to be equating flatness with surface hardness. Tarmac isn't unforgiving to walk on because it's flat, it's because it has no give.

Sure, but I'd imagine the average human could walk substantially further on flat modern roads in modern footwear than on cobblestone with ancient sandles. You use 10–20% more energy for just mildly uneven surfaces - probably more for r

Cobblestones aren't walk friendly.

That said, as someone who has walked on cobblestone - a modern road in modern boots is different to an ancient road in ancient boots. I'd bet money the 'real' travel times would differ.

We don't allow kids to smoke, presumably that's also something to do with limiting their agency?

'Fooling', essentially to deceive or trick, is defined as causing someone to believe an untruth - at least in British English it does. LLMs don't hold beliefs (neither do mechanistic processes), and they aren't a someone

They simply appear to "exhibit intelligent processing". The intelligence is in what created the data. It's a surface that's being traversed in a complex way. The LLM doesn't 'understand' that surface in

You can't fool an inanimate object. An LLM is (effectively) just a really, really elaborate "choose your own adventure" book. It's not "working through" problems, it's just tracing a route through an pre-d

Copyright is about exclusive publication, production, sale, or distribution. An LLM is just a really, really big, really, really elaborate "choose your own adventure" book. You aren't a book.

These aren't the same thing. You can't fool an AI because it isn't using its own judgement.

Algorithms and data that emulate responses aren't smart. A 5 year old knows if you want to wash your car, you need to take it to the car wash.
