Of course - don't think this article is speaking to the typical HN user.

I guess I don't understand the "force" aspect. As a distributor wouldn't you already be implementing WebM or Theora to satisfy Firefox/Opera? If so, how does Chrome all of a sudden force you to change? As a Chrome use, what changes? All

I'd say it's a stretch to say "sucks" but yes, spam needs to be filtered.

Ugh, I'm so sick of seeing arguments to or from Gruber. He's like a constant Apple soap opear. Google is a business and they're allowed to make decisions. Switching to WebM saves them money, pushes their codec, and their users (Chrome) l

How does it hurt their users? This is saving Google money and promoting their encoder. Chrome users can still view H.264 in the browser without having to download anything extra (through bundled Flash).

This is a big deal for me, I HATE that carriers can install 5+ crapware apps on my phone that are completely uninstallable without rooting your phone. I let my nephew play with my phone for about 15 minutes one afternoon and a month later I

If you're storing information on the internet (aka buzzword "Cloud"), you're at higher risk of getting that data stolen or spied on. This isn't new. It is something to be aware of the more you store online.

I agree, I think it's a waste of money. My brother however collects DVDs and Blu-rays. He's got a huge library of movies that can be watched any time (and probably cost a fortune). I think it's on the decline but I also think we'll be pa

Good point, the article's main focus was over user data but that would be bad as well. I guess I felt like if your corporate DNS is hijacked, TVs are the least of your worries. Hackers could use exploits such as Evilgrade to take over com

Once your network DNS is hijacked aren't you screwed anyways? What's to stop someone from presenting fake bank or email website logins?

More cloud fluff. Yes, cracking a pre-shared key requires a lot of processing. The more computers working on this, the less time required.

Agreed. My next app will be HTML5 and on the cloud. In other words I'll make it pretty and it'll live on a server rather than at the office.

by watty 16y ago
It's nothing more than a buzz word now. In the commercial they say "To the cloud" and then he uses remote desktop. This is something that could have been in a commercial 10+ years ago but is only appealing now due to the word "cloud" ("to

Is adware prohibited from everything in the store? It seems like every windows application I download has some sort of toolbar bundled but maybe this isn't a problem on Mac.

Comparing this to an iOS or Android device is silly. This is running a full OS and is not limited to an App Store. It's extremely portable being a tablet but the difference is you can pull out a keyboard and it becomes more than a large p

I was not impressed by this. It would have been nice of LinkedIn to include a more specific reason for requiring a password reset other than "We have recently disabled your account for security reasons.". I was in panic mode this morning
