For those interested in an interesting take on how money really works, Steve Keen wrote this amazing article: http://www.debtdeflation.com/blogs/2009/01/31/therovingcaval...

Is that even true? A bomb might have 100 pounds of nuclear material, fairly efficiently exploded, releasing a lot of energy. A burning, melting reactor might have 100s of TONS of fuel pellets, which can be aerosolized and distributed to the

They've been dumping 100's of tons of water through these reactors since the meltdowns. Isn't there just the tiniest clue, in the massive quantities of 1+ Sv radiation from the water, that some of the materials have been washed out of the r

13" MacBook, but have been happy in the past with a 12" G4 PowerBook. Next portable will likely be the 11' MacBook Air, as I'm really impressed with all the reviews evoking the spirit of the 12" PowerBook... but fast.

"What the hell's this? A helicopter for ants?" Yeah, part of the back, maybe ECM detail, looks like it should be the front, and it crossed my mind it might be a drone. But yeah, just the back part.

If you really think about this, you may recognize the genius of Jim Meddick (of Robotman and Monty fame), in naming a compilation "Primary Crullers".

I'm sure Steve is factually right, and Apple has zero interest in tracking any users. However, they've been stupid and sloppy, and instead of minimizing the footprint and usefulness of the location to base-station cache, they've tagged it w

One of the great things about the internet is the ability to play chess against anyone online, through any of the many sites such as Yahoo! games etc. I used to play a bit online, and as well as improving my chess just through more play, th

I've worked with programmers who also would have argued with Linus, but there's no way I would have been able to be as direct as Linus has. This definitely struck a chord, though, and I have my own saying for silent retorts: "It's a comput

In fact, the SUN-1 was 68000-based with a custom MMU. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun-1 Though, I'd likely agree that UNIX probably wasn't that useful on these 680x0 workstations until the SUN 3/50, 68020 1 Meg RAM.
