Any particular reason? It does seem like if the WIMP interface to Metro can be made to work well, that many many users will flock lemming-like to Metro-style apps. As a developer, I want to be where the users will be.

I tried it for a bit, then happily re-imaged back to Snow Leopard. There's just too much goofy laptop oriented crap that I don't want. I was laughing out loud reading that article. And grimacing, as someone who works late in a quiet house,

Yes, here's a place they really could have done something cool with the UI, and spiffed up a be-cobwebbed corner of Explorer. In XP, there's a folder that you can put folder and program shortcuts in, that will populate the send to menu. In

One possible approach that might have helped in the Air France case might be to let the pilots know what the plane doesn't know, instead of bombarding them with the unsolvable problems it did know. At one point, they were at full thrust, no

One of those people who did credit Burroughs, was Prof Ron Morrison at St Andrews. His students often heard little snippets about the B5000, sometimes coincidental with diatribes against Pascal, particularly the arbitrary limitations like t

I'm running about 6 years behind in my reading, in that I have about 6 years of books piled up in my bookshelves. Real World Haskell is pretty near the end of the queue. Anyone have similar problems, or have any tips on 'getting to read'?

A large part of Apple's success is the NeXT heritage in the form of NextStep that was the sapling that has grown into Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard and now Lion.

Jony Ive is still there right? Look at how he's progressed from the toilet seat portable, to the Pismos, to the Luxo iMac, to the white iMac, to the unibodies. Sure Steve was there, praising and berating, but I doubt Steve himself would hav

If you're on a Mac or Linux, it's easy to switch to a click-through model where you don't have to click a window before selecting a tool. It renders GIMP usable on a Mac if you do this. Personally, I just haven't managed to get into Pixelma
