Unrealistic. Obama has enough on his plate with Obamacare and deciding the US role in Libya. Nor is their any reason to think that Obama will secretly control Google via Eric Schmidt. A more realistic outcome is that Eric Schmidt will find

I only said 'many' lose their shirts, but that might have been harsh. Many investors are just looking to store their savings. They're not Warren Buffets, they don't study markets to make educated decisions, they just go into index funds and

Here is what free speech means to me. I have the suspicion that others might disagree, but it's a starting point: Free Speech means that law shouldn't punish communication. If you write a hate filled article then free speech protects you fr

How can one disagree with this article without being branded sexist and intolerant? She asserts there are few designers and women in open source software because men alienate them. And that we should try to make it so technical competence

I agree. I think any employer would be flattered with such a targeted application. But I think it could be better if she listed benefits she could bring Instagram, rather than her personality traits. She does link to a very nice resume th

It seems a lot of money goes into massive school complexes. In a more free education market, I think you'd see smaller neighborhood schools, which would make school switching much less costly. A teacher needs a single room, which can be in

'Economics in One Lesson' refutes this logic in its chapter "The Curse of Machinery" ( http://steshaw.org/economics-in-one-lesson/chap07p1.html ). Some highlights: -- If we assert automation removes the need for labour. Then it follows that

Funny how he treats 'static typing' as the natural order and 'dynamic typing' as the special case. I would have pegged it the other way round. Machines are typeless, its all numbers until somebody puts (or doesn't put) a type system on it

I've never heard of suntools before. I googled it and found sunView on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SunView . Reminds me of Haiku OS (open source BeOS clone), Amiga, and Linux Framebuffer. All sit directly (afaik) on the kernel,

I keep hearing proprietary data killing the Internet. But before these businesses (and Google, Facebook, etc) came about, the data wasn't on the web. The 'open' Internet is not dying, it never existed.

Its sad how inconstant political terms are. Liberal today implies support for a lot of programs it didn't in Jefferson's time. I don't understand 'anarcho communism' -- wouldn't that be the overthrow of government to establish communism? H
