Bloomberg knew of _something_, but Bloomberg isn't a news company. They're a hardware company. That info was passed on to the journos who went and did their own thing (Telephone, chinese whispers, and a healthy dose of confirmatio

Makernet was a little cagey about their process, but my samples show shading in the color. They were using a full-color process where any (or all) colors could be produced in a single pass. You are right that pad/silk printing would be

So this is something I've been involved with for the past few years. This is _not_ the first PCB with full-color graphics. A company out of Shenzhen called Makernet was doing something similar to this, and produced some interesting boa

Nerds. Who think they're smarter than everyone else. It's like Hacker News. The tone really fits the audience well.

Don't forget Fritzing! While Fritzing is most commonly used for making very professional-looking diagrams of breadboard layouts, it's also a complete and extremely capable EDA suite. I've done several boards in Fritzing, and

The reason Bloomberg is so sure about this is because chips/'infected' Supermicro boards were originally found at Bloomberg. They noticed odd web traffic coming from a server, took a look, found nothing, looked closer, and

Because Patrick Stewart signed on for another Star Trek reboot. This would obviously feature the bridge of the Enterprise D. A few years ago, CBS shut down the fan film Axanar, because it told the story of the Star trek universe about 10 ye

But it's clickbait, and that's against HN guidelines. I wasn't a sysadmin in the 90s, and I remember this stuff. Are we _really_ supposed to believe that _only_ 90s sysadmins remember the items on this listicle? That makes it

I'm not going to say 'no', but I would highly doubt it. If you're wondering what the 'state of the art' in disguising components to look like other components is, this [1] is probably the best example. It

All they need to do is open it up and take a look inside. There should just be a USB port and a pair of wires, maybe a pair of resistors. If there's anything else, this is a Trojan Horse. You can probably open this up with a butter

I assure you, that is not a two-color silkscreen. The green NVIDIA 'eye' logo is much more likely a second manufacturing process (confusingly also a silkscreen or pad printing process) that was done after the boards were received

HN has a problem with the libertarian hellscape ideology of laws being an impediment to wealth. I would argue this oppressive ideology is far more violent than the dross that's skimmed off Reddit. Additionally, HN is far, far less inte
