It's a rapid development tool for front-end development. If I'm reading the documation correctly, I think it's based on the MVC architecture. Sure, you could make your backend in plain Ruby, but if you learn to use Rails you can do things q

I learned to make computer games by making below average computer games. What's wrong with someone learning to make programming langauges by making below average programming langauges?

Many of the people asking if it was Minecraft 1.8 were just doing it to bother others.

Yes. Firefox on Linux with OpenJDK works for me. You could try downloading https://s3.amazonaws.com/ld48/index.html and https://s3.amazonaws.com/ld48/PoC.jar?v=9 , then running it with `appletviewer index.html` from a terminal. The contr

If you like Python, there's one called PyWeek ( http://www.pyweek.org/ ) that starts on September 11. Registration is open now. As others have stated, the one Notch is participating in right now is called Ludum Dare ( http://ludumdare.com/

Did they change the article? I didn't see that in the text or videos.

I'm surprised so many people like spaces. I was under the impression that most people didn't use a space.

No one said it wasn't. The author claims that MoonScript is programmer friendly, but he never said that Lua isn't. It's an alternative, but not necessarily an improvement.

Not completely straightforward, but you could do something like this if you have curl and libxml2 installed: curl -s https://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos/oHg5SJYRHA0?v=2 | xmllint --format - | grep media:restriction The 'oHg5

Entertaining. Maybe hide the stack traces and just show the error messages: $ cat nonexistent cat: nonexistent: No such file or directory $ lolcat nonexistent /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/lolcat-42.0.21/lib/lolcat/cat.rb

There's no in joke (I don't know helwr). My first sentence was meant to be sarcastic. I was encouraging helwr to explain his/her opinion, since saying "YC startups suck" without any further explanation doesn't really contribute anything.

Yup, every last one of them :) I doubt you really stand behind that. Maybe you really mean, for example, that a majority of the YC startups make things that aren't useful to you.

The logo changed since fossuser posted this comment. The older version of the logo had the "I" and the "M" joined near the top so it looked like "Fukme" instead of "Fukime".

node.js is node.js for the rest of us :) jQuery smooths out browser inconsistencies and replaces an overly verbose API (DOM). node.js has neither of these issues.

By reading the post title, you've now heard of it. Once you decide whether or not you want to read it, "No, and I don't want to" or "Not yet, but it should happen soon" would be a good choice for you.

You can change the activities/overview screen shortcut in the 'Shortcuts' tab of the keyboard settings panel. It's located under the 'System' category. I personally chose win-space instead of just win.

Same for me (different numbers, though). I'm not surprised, though—I'm on an EC2 VPN, which some internet services are somewhat biased against (notably Stack Overflow).

This is exactly what's wrong with paying money over the internet. There is no way to control how much the person you're giving money to chooses to take.

I'm most productive in a silent, mostly empty room at 2:00am. I'm pretty much worthless as a programmer if I'm in the presence of other people.
