How have I not heard of Dask? Would have saved me a lot of pain when trying to deal with oom datasets in my Luigi pipeline.

Not to sound stupid, but I have the option for a 401k Traditional vs 401K Roth. When you say 'Roth', do you mean Roth 401K or Roth IRA? This is what had me confused the entire part of a year - Roth IRA vs Roth 401k.

I just yesterday realized the difference between a Roth 401k and a Roth IRA... because I hadn't been contributing to my Roth 401k assuming it had the same Roth IRA income limit. But it doesn't. Oops. Would you recommend a traditio

I love their web interface. If the VPN interface is similar, I'd be willing to try. I've been looking for a cheaper alternative to iVPN lately, since I don't use it nearly as often as I thought I would.

This is interesting, but I find most texts like this mentally stimulating but lacking in practical suggestions that I have time to understand. Any suggestions for similar work but with a more practical bend to it?

This is so true. For what it's worth, there are probably a lot of people who would give anything to be a human prop earning a salary significantly above $100k (even far outside of SF). For someone who's actually interested in data

Couldn't you also be identified to a certain probability based on your writing style (stylometry)? I remember reading something about that years ago. Makes me think someone should make a Chrome extension that will re-write everything s

I'd love that. I'm still irritated that the FDA forced 23andme to remove the Alzheimer's/Parkinson's report (though I completely understand why). Now I have to run all my 23andme data through promethease, which is s

I struggle really hard to understand this. Relative to many other professions, software engineering (IMHO) is a respected and very well-paid profession, with a fairly positive outlook. I'm somewhat surprised to see so many comments her

Fascinating, I might have to get one. Do these smear when you close the book? Does it have a similar feel and aesthetic to paper?

I would hope that working 12 hours a day to keep robots firmware up to date would command a lot more money than a basic income would?

So the question is, are you willing to sell it for pennies on the dollar so I can try it out for a few hours and then send it off to someone else? ;)

I'm in the corporate world, and my managers were thinking about jumping on the open-office bandwagon (albeit a decade too late). I'm very glad it never materialized, because I love having my own cubicle without distraction. Unli

Giving people money for all those things wouldn't be socially digestible, especially in the U.S. Hence why I don't think the idea of basic income would ever really take off here, even if there were evidence that it would be sustai

Coming from a background in neuroscience, IMO, neurons are extremely complicated. There's tons of molecular machinery beyond their inputs and outputs (which in and of themselves are complicated). They are complicated enough that neur

I'm coming from a PhD in STEM where I did a lot of application of basic ML to my (neuroscience) research, and it took me a good while to get a data science position. But once I got the job, I have been inundated with interview requests

I think the purported liberal slant of the mainstream media is a separate (though related) issue from the blatantly-false news stories that come from both sides of the aisle, that permeate through social media platforms.
