More often than not, when I read people saying they prefer one over the other, they almost always prefer the one they used first. I think it's a combination of people being naturally averse to change and how different the two feel in use. M

"We have dropped PHP 4 support and we have refactored all the code to be strictly compliant with PHP 5.2+." Exciting! I have some projects written in 1.3. Anyone port from 1.3 yet and care to comment on their experience with it?

I really think it's possible they won't release it until June 2013, but another fall release is still probably more likely.

Don't forget about the used market. There's a slew of people selling their iPhone 4 to upgrade to the 4S, and people are still buying the 3GS. If you really need to upgrade, but don't care if you're getting the latest and greatest, it looks

This is true, but they make up for it with a $30/mo plan that includes 100 minutes of talk and unlimited text and data. There's a $50/mo plan that includes unlimited everything. Personally, that's a trade-off I'm happy to make.

The Galaxy S sold 10 millions units in 6 months. The Galaxy S II, largely heralded as the best phone ever made, hit 10 millions sales worldwide in 5 months ( http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/09/galaxy-s-ii-10-millio... ). Apple being 40%

That's sort of true. They are clearly targeting the touch market with it, but it's a lot more than just an application menu. It think it's a brilliant touch interface, but an awful mouse one, though, to be fair, I have yet to use it in any

I'm hoping they backpedal too, especially for the next LTS. I'm pretty doubtful that they will though.

I feel the same way. Unity wasn't ready for prime time, and I honestly believe it still isn't. They've forced the user's hand here and made it worse by not keeping changes speedy. Additionally, I hate nearly all the changes to the default a

One of the commenters in the post mirrored my thoughts exactly; I'm sticking with the 10.04 LTS, and if this garbage isn't sorted out by the next LTS, I'm jumping the Ubuntu ship. I understand that everyone is trying to target touch screens

That's interesting to hear. Netflix forced you to re-evaluate the value proposition and it makes sense to consider all forms of entertainment while you're at it. I wonder if there are a significant number of people like yourself that also t

In order to maintain "Retina" display, they'd need to keep their 300 pixels per square inch or more density. That also doesn't leave them a whole lot of room to bump up the screen size without bumping up the resolution again. They've got so

I get the same impression. Why they feel the need to punish power users is beyond me though. Power users typically know the keyboard shortcuts and right-click menus pretty well. Adding all these buttons to the interface is just taking up sp

I don't know why people are so surprised with this acquisition. Adobe has wanted a piece of the mobile development world for some time (look at the export to iOS they released not too long ago). They already have a decent suite of developme

(2) Amazon's market is different. They aren't competing with other "Android vendors." Yes it essentially runs Android, and by some peoples' definition, it's a tablet, but in the end what the Fire really is is a well-integrated portal to Ama

They actually forked earlier than that. Everything I've read has said the forked 2.1, which means Amazon has been developing the Fire for some time now, with impressive secrecy to boot.

Sure, but none of the Android tablets are really purpose built for that. Samsung, Motorola, Asus and all the others seem to aim to be a kind of more-portable laptop, giving you memory card slots, cameras and to some extent even office type

It kind of is as a secondary function, but it was built as a media consumption/purchasing device, a kind of hand-held portal into the world of Amazon; even their browser relies heavily on their EC2 platform. Compared to the Android tablets

I don't buy that they are buying user profiles. The ability to run WebOS apps on the Kindle would be interesting, but buying such a small app market and spending the extra money to integrate it, I don't know if I buy that. And a complete mo

The Fire makes sense, it's a media portal that plugs directly in to Amazon's forte; books, and more recently, apps and streaming video. It's not a tablet though, and Bezos readily, and correctly, admits that. What exactly would they gain by

I thought the whole reason NASA's shuttles jettisoned their rockets and large fuel tank was because getting that added weight in to space was prohibitive. How is it that they propose to get not only the entire rocket in to space but also en

OK, I had read the emulator wasn't ideal but didn't know if maybe other people had better experiences. Is it necessary to get the newest phone? I've seen an unlocked Nexus One, for about $350, seemed like a viable option. Woot just had the

Hypothetically, if I were interested in getting in to Android development, but I didn't want to switch to using an Android phone, what would be the most cost-effective way to get my hands on an Android device that would be good for testing?
