Right. For example I have useful dual citizenship, which I can't pass on to my daughter because I'm not married to her mother. The rules on this vary according to the countries involved.

Facebook wasted loads of my time before I even got onsite, with several shared-screen coding phone interviews spread over a month. Each time I would solve all the problems and get to working code but a week later they would ask me to do ano

I've been looking for a source, but I remember a previous air show incident where a stealth aircraft was detected and the excuse was that the active stealth system was not turned on, i.e. the aircraft would have used electronic active

Right. In one case somebody worked out that Tay would repeat anything you wanted if you said “Repeat after me” first. Tay was just functioning as an echo, not taking on beliefs.

I agree. This is the reason the Google C++ style guide bans use of "unsigned" wherever it can be avoided. The extra bit of headroom is not worth it, and it's clearer to explicitly check for arguments that are out of range.

I can tell you that this line does not work at Apple. If I ever questioned Apple's weirdly bureaucratic ways of doing things my manager would yell at me "I don't give a fuck what you did at Google!".

Ex-Googler here. This proposal makes no sense to me. Anybody can write a web-crawler and get a searchable indexed snapshot of the web. What Google is good at, is ranking your search results based on relevance and quality so the best results

Some small vestige of this remained. There is a sharp edge on the original iPhone 1 in the area of the headphone socket and you can cut your finger on it if you are not careful.

Nuclear is never actually cheap though. In practise it costs a fortune to build, a fortune to run, a fortune to dismantle, and then you have to pay to store the waste forever. Even that assessment is charitably assuming that there are no ma

I think the Pi team unintentionally became dependant on the time window they normally spent using test boards based on pre-release versions of the Broadcom sytem-on-a-chip. When the Broadcom chip went final really early they ended up shippi

There's a project management lesson here. Raspberry Pi 4 was planned for 2020, but the Broadcom SOC went final much sooner than expected, so they shipped the Pi 4 this year. This sounds like a great thing, but the earlier release meant
