Well, hospitals aren't required to tell you what a given procedure is going to cost before doing it, so basically it boils down to: If you get really sick, "gotcha".

The article doesn't mention two very important things working in the programmers favor - leverage and margin. A software product can scale to hundreds of millions of customers with just a few employees (ex. WhatsApp). This increases re

Good suggestion. Being from India where double majors aren't a thing, it didn't strike me. Thanks.

Serious question: how does a parent deal with their high school kids wanting to pursue college in a field with a low probability of high lifetime earnings (art, theatre etc.) ? Especially when they are middle class without generational weal

No corruption for basic services, access to decent education, property rights and if in the US, money. Although the access to education is now being heavily gated by property values in countries like US.

This is focusing on expenses though, which is a much easier problem in terms of accounting (I doubt if this particular approach would work well) The real difficulty is in accounting for revenue contributions

Thank you for your insightful comment. This explains a lot from my own experience in big firms. Do you have any suggestions on how to encourage efficient delivery over Empire building ? It almost feels like any metric driven incentive can b

Don't know if you're sarcastic. But high skilled workers would rather leave for other countries or go back home than become illegal immigrants.

If you don't mind, could you elaborate on your opinion further ? IMO power users in democracy (lobbyists, influencers and special interest groups) will always have more leverage unless the population is educated and informed enough to

Violation of immigration law should lead to automatic bans on applying for future visas by the company. I always wonder why DHS or USCIS don't go after big names like them harder.

I get your point, but in this case, that arm is operating on its own without complete control by the user (I assume). Its not the same as playing with something. It can go very, very wrong if that arm has a bug and there's no force fee

Personally, I'm OK with ads in podcasts. They are based on the general audience for the show and doesn't have any intrusive tracking or personalization. If I'm really tired of the ad I can just skip ahead 30 seconds.
