I like to describe my colleagues as the delta between how smart they are, and how smart they _think_ they are. “Junior” devs almost always fall in the “wide gap” spectrum but it is by no means restricted to any age group.

If I’ve learned anything, the only people who care about doing things are at the very, very bottom. No one up the chain actually cares about doing things. They talk about doing things, present grand slidedecks internally and at conferences

IANAL but it doesn’t seem like much, unless you’re planning on building a terraform-as-a-service company to compete directly with hashicorp. Honestly I’m not surprised given hashicorp’s enterprise offering are basically just… hosting the .t

Eh, I've always defined "edge" as the closest piece of compute infra to your client. Could be a VM, a load balancer, an API gateway, a service worker, whatever. Arguing it's part of your CDN is just letting Cloudflare&#x

They've been pitching and winning a fair few moonshot (heh) projects as of late, mostly due to their war chest and lobbying power. As a space company they've yet to have a spacecraft (or even one of their BE-4 engines) make it to

Now I’m imagining a larger, fixed-wing loitering drone carrying the package(s) and a small last-mile drone that detaches, drops its payload at the destination and then returns to the mothership.

There seems to be very little incentive to buy a compact car in the US, especially when the calculus involves _every other driver_ is in 6000 lb death machine, with 400 more horsepower than they need and vision-blocking A-pillars the size o

Mine’s main purpose is dealing with dinner when I forgot to defrost something the night before. Besides that it collects dust. I know it can do more but I view it as a machine that does everything ok and nothing perfect.

Not everything is a webserver. There's a lot of software out there that wouldn't expect files to exist anywhere else besides on disk, and it's not worth fetching them all from cloud storage before you begin working on the dat

Calling any software system "niche" is kind of hilarious, as if, if it isn't postgres it's a massive failure. It's not supposed to be a high-performance cache of data. My company uses GCSFuse for ad-hoc analysis
