It's comical how little people understand about machine learning, no one calls an ODE solver artificial intelligence but gradient descent on an interesting equation is somehow now A.I.

Note that none of these languages have dependent types and that feature is sometimes impossible to add in full generic power after the fact without completely breaking existing code.

You're ignoring the vastly larger group of developers, of which I am one, that simply refuses to program in lisp specifically because of the parenthesis hell.

Yet you browse and comment on this website, clearly a bastioned of informed opinions, and no political posturing. Really it's worse off for not having the occasional meme.

The only thing I've learned from this thread is that there is a vocal group of regressive, probably rich (software developers), complaining about homeless people not being jailed.

If you listen to Conway talk about the Surreals you'll note that he considered it a game (in the game theory sense). He was interested in games of a certain kind and what properties they had, a long the way he stumbled upon this game t

Yikes. Talk about ignoring externalities. The energy industry is still run by oil and gas, not renewables, not nuclear. We've made a lot of progress but to think that Nuclear is a better solution than renewables is not an automatically

That's a lot of words without any evidence. I guess the learned are just oppressing the creatives by demanding their arguments be evidence based and logical? Another tiered competence that they just reject as a systematic way to contro

The entire point of bandcamp, for me, is FLAC downloads. There was already a comment about how there aren't epub downloads. So this is hardly the "Bandcamp for books." More like the "Spotify for books" I would think

You can also cause segfaults, the point I think is more that it is hard to do this instead of easy as it is in some languages, like C.

The ratio does not convey quality. Stars can indicate interest where as issues are correlated with both usage and quality. A star is not nearly as strongly correlated with either usage or quality, it is most strongly correlated with interes

It's not weird at all. Continuity is, in my opinion, less complex than discrete systems. Discrete systems hold much more information and can often be approximated by continuous solutions, but that approximation comes at a loss of infor

Being left-leaning is not cause for antitrust. Making your argument a false equivocation. Should Google be subject to antitrust trials? I would say yes, but not because of a left or right leaning bias in their search results.

I disagree strongly with your take on story points: First, if story points are an indirect measure of time, then the "psychological game" you're playing will be immediately revealed if your engineers are as smart as claimed.
