I think the LTCG issue is more common in VC and PE. That's not even touching QSBS. I probably disagree with the preferential taxation given to these categories, but I'm definitely willing to change my mind. Hedge fund managers wil

One note is that it's my understanding that running Linux or even FreeBSD will mean that you can't hit 1Mpps if that's important to what you're doing.

Wouldn't it be reasonable to have a sanity check that can be bypassed by the user? It is very likely to be a mistake if there's no full stop in the address, but there are exceptions [0]. I would like to see a warning if I accident

I don't know how appealing that is. Even from a GUI perspective, moving from Linux to Windows is such a huge step backwards. I have to keep an eye on a whole bunch of things at work so I only run a Windows box for one or two pieces of

I agree with most of your comment. I never understood the idea behind prop 13. A naive interpretation seems to be that it lowers taxes on the one item where dead weight loss is very low. This is in addition to the argument that it's a

An index fund is not its index. The distinction is important because the latter does not include management fees, transaction costs, and financing. From here it's easy to see how an index fund might beat the market.

AVP is something like the equivalent of senior software engineer rather than team lead. There are even plenty of MDs that are just individual contributors. Titles in finance usually reflect pay band rather than any sort of management role.

I'm not sure that this would slow down HFT, but it might cut costs for consumers. It would definitely be a good idea to have different tick sizes for different products as it's odd that the most liquid products and the least liqui

It is not obvious to me that the error would not accumulate. In fact, the opposite becomes somewhat clear if one looks at similar products that differ mainly in their lack of an arbitrage mechanism.

I think this characterisation of Wall Street is a little disingenuous. Just to use Goldman as an example: it's hard to claim that SSG, MSI, UIG, and others are acting in anything approaching a "purely facilitatory role" as yo

Internalization disincetivizes people from making tight markets in lit venues because you will only get filled when an internalizer thought the flow was toxic. This in turn means that markets are wider for all participants.

It's not hard to see who benefits from these taxes. You avoid the tax by trading a swap/CFD/forward (outside the U.S., if necessary). This means that your market maker is a bank instead of an HFT firm. More of the order flow
