I'm not sure that people want/use as much web apps as you think. Most of the web is still "documents", and if you want an browser adapted for webapps, then use prism ( http://prism.mozilla.com/ )

Then it wouldn't be the browser as we know it. The browsers are misused because originally they were a document viewing system.

Actually it's far from simple. Do you find the back button easy to use ? And, speaking of applications, I don't think that the webapp is a better methaphor than the desktop app.

It's amusing because I don't write like this at all. Instead, I sit in front of my computer and refactor until I'm satisfied with the result.

Yes, but calling somebody a "hacker" is completely subjective, contrary to a doctor for instance. And somebody's hacker is someone else's noob.

Does it really matter to be a hacker or not ? - or rather, to be called a "hacker".

Not necessarily. I'm sure that an emulator differs in some subtle ways from a real machine.

Well, Java has his problems too. I'd suggest learning C and then switching to a real object language (for instance io - http://www.iolanguage.com/ ) Do you want to learn those languages for your career or just for yourself ?

I don't know whether geekcorps is still active, however, you should be more lucky with the Lion's Club International, which organizes similar projects : http://www.lionsclubs.org/

And don't forget numpy/scipy for numerical computation and nodebox for plotting ( http://www.nodebox.net ) which are extremely convenient libraries.

The problem with your approach is that you separate creative and non-creative persons. And everyone could be creative, if given the chance.

No qt is the reason. qt is well designed and thought, contrary to gtk. And it's not because qt was written in C++.

Given its market share, I don't think that Google could be replaced ; instead - if it happens - it would be rendered obsolete by a new paradigm for finding data.
