California’s economy feels like it’s running on tech companies at this point. Any downturn in their hiring has really big effects on the California state budget.

I haven't seen his earlier post about Windows. Kinda funny. He's put quite a lot of effort into Omarchy now though.

It's still a net loss of jobs. I'm certain the future will involve increasing automation to further reduce headcount. A McDonald's recently opened near me with no seating, and orders can only be placed through the app or at t

Yes, I've seen this in rural America. Purchased some firewood at a random stand on the highway. Pick some up, leave $5 in the box. Really nice to see this sort of thing in action.

There are vast parts of California that are pretty much empty. However, the lack of competition in broadband at the consumer level does suck.

Pretty impressive. I doubt you'd find a comparably sized US city with zero traffic deaths in a year.

I've heard good things about the Dutch system of healthcare and that it may be adoptable to the US. I'd totally agree that healthcare corporations become non profit like Kaiser here in the US. They aren't perfect, but they se

I've heard some good things about Bazzite, which is a Fedora immutable based gaming distro. I'm on a vanilla Arch install with the Zen kernel and been too lazy to try something different.

I brought my Starlink on a three week RV trip through the western U.S., and it was pretty impressive. I was surprised it worked well even in some wooded areas. I would’ve been pretty frustrated if it had stopped working.

Saw him live back in 1986 at the Long Beach Arena with Metallica opening. And I think I saw Sabbath at on OzzFest with Slayer. He was a great frontman and certainly lived a full life. We should all be so fortunate.

Regarding #1, on mountain bikes, carbon handlebars don’t give any warning before breaking. I quit using them after seeing one that broke on a friend’s bike. That could have been catastrophic.

That's too bad. Clear Linux was super optimized. I'd hope someone would continue doing the tweaks to the kernel that they did.

It seems like it'd be pretty expensive to convert office buildings to apartments. I'd imagine there are a ton of building regulations that office buildings don't have to adhere to compared to an apartment.

We’ve got some pretty big solar installations here in California, but there are environmental rules and groups that keep us from just tearing up huge sections of desert to put in panels.
