Strongly agree. One should question tradition, not uphold it because it tradition . (Sure, tearing everything down for the sake of it is unproductive, but I’m not advising that.) Every time one does something because “that’s how it’s done”

Try reading physics books that introduce the maths as an instrument (e.g. Wald’s General relativity to learn tensor calculus, you only need the first few chapters), they usually explain concepts and notation in simpler terms. However, they

I can’t speak for true mathematicians, but as a (mostly theoretical) physicist I would hate to write my maths in plain English. Notation is used precisely because it’s easier, more efficient (to write and to read) to use it instead of prose

Some of those are way off, IMO: - What CPU makes a thousand cycles per second? - How is fastest electronic switching slower than fastest computer operation? - AFAIK, DDR5 access time is -8 or -7, not -6. - Earth rotation frequency is -5, no

It’s the same in (mathematical) physics: I routinely say something like “let’s look very far away, say z=10” to my workgroup. :P

Ehm, do you claim space exploration cases a meaningful impact on the global climate in a world built on burning fossil fuel, refining iron ore, making almost everything out of mostly non recycled plastic, and eating cows and chickens? ._.
