Apple does not like to compete. They would rather call it spatial computing and price their product in an astronomical band than risk being seen as yet another VR headset competitor. They will never make a search engine. On the other hand,

I think you've got your use of 'masquerading' here backwards. These *are* piracy apps, and presumably people share them since they want their friends to have free content too.

The comments here seem ignorant of how regulations in the EU have become and what the dynamic is. Regulation is being lionized [0] as a political badge of honor, and as TFA shows, things are getting ridiculous: it is not enough that you can

As an experienced dev I can tell whether a (direct) manager will work for me or not within about three weeks, with some variance depending on organizational pressure (in lean times you can tell sooner, in lush times it takes longer — a resu

In the context of prediction, there is no such thing as a “mistake”, any more than a d20 die can make a mistake. You might get a 1 when you wanted a 20, but you can hardly blame the machine, only the manufacturer who forgot to weight it wit

As a Xoogler, I have to say Google isn’t what it once was. You pay for your high salary with the fact that the one thing you can be sure most people you work with care about is how much money they extract out of Google and how they could ge

This book [0] contains several such letters. Beware it makes for fairly dry reading sometimes, since they're usually addressed to one person about a topic that may or may not be of general interest, and often missing greater context. [

I wish that had been my motto earlier. I bought a resin 3d printer off craigslist in perfect working condition, tried to update the firmware (for no good reason), and ended up promptly bricking the thing. I got it fixed in the end, but it w

One unfortunate thing is that it pays well. If it didn't pay so well, perhaps there would be more intrinsically motivated folks who would attempt to accomplish something worthwhile regardless of the organization's myriad dysfuncti

Beyond showing just how much influence Mr. Thiel has on Mr. Zuckerberg (referring to efforts behind the commencement speech as 'we'), I didn't glean anything from these e-mails. They seemed rather devoid of meaningful content

GP is rebutting the “upside downing” of the economy by superintelligent AGI. If you meant to argue that case, your points seem insufficient.

Writing to process and reflect on loss naturally brings more vulnerability and introspection to one’s writing. I’m not sure that would carry over to all your subsequent work, though.

This is a case where The Bitter Lesson [0] should make you feel better about the future. We are already butting up against the limitations of the current model and veering into fine-tuning and incremental improvement of what we've got

Seems to me like you’d be more likely to sign a deal “up to AGI” if you knew that was a pipe dream that would never happen. It’s easy to sign away your firstborn child if you’ll never have any children to begin with. Edit: Nevermind, looks

For NLP tasks it's unlikely that "epistemic uncertainty" is a useful metric, though it's interesting to ask an LLM "what is the third word in this sentence?" and then suggest alternative answers. It's a go
