After three decades slinging code, my stress response to high pressure tends to be inversely proportional to the size and competency of the org/team. Suitably sized and capable team? Not going to sweat too much about it. The smaller

Show me the consequences. I hear there are supposed to be repercussions, but these asshats never seem to pay for their crimes.

Having been the guy to speak the uncomfortable truths at such meetings, I can tell you that does not end well for anyone. Expect to look for another job shortly afterwards.

> Meta is simply playing a strategy game to make everything shittier for everyone else (everyone uses an OS) in order to protect themselves (not everyone uses Meta). You just summed up regulatory capture.

Hey, at least they can exist. Many businesses in the US can no longer exist at small scale, because the barriers to entry are too high because the entrenched interests achieved total regulatory capture.

This sums it up. I can’t understand how people think these people are anything but the world’s worst sociopaths. I cannot understand how so many people idolize and buy into them.

What reasons do you think exist that lead you to believe Earth is special for having evolved complex intelligent life?

Indeed. The system’s purpose is what it does.

I would wager it is being used for such things, but those users have managed to mask their activities. Give it a little more time, and we will find the bad actors that have been using them recklessly since their release.

That is not just the auto industry either. US manufacturers have really dropped the ball across the board, and tariffs are not going to fix it for them. I’m not really sure what the solution is at this point. We can’t just drop the tariff

There is a ballot measure this Fall in Oregon that would ban pet and livestock ownership in the state. The backers got over 100,000 people to sign the petition. There are people that either simply do not understand the natural order that

I have regretted everyone that I ever voted for. Every candidate will ultimately be regrettable, because it’s not the candidate that’s bad - it is the system itself that has become irredeemably corrupt.

You seem like the type of person that will take advantage of others when a loophole law permits it. Sure, it may be legal, but it still makes you a bad person in my book.

The law is not what determines right and wrong. Following the law can still result in unethical and immoral behavior. Exploitation of others through information asymmetry, whether illegal or not, is inherently wrong.

You are approaching the problem with upstanding ethics and morals. I think that’s the difference, because the outcomes you list are exactly what we get with the current system.

I think you are flatly wrong. For example, our current system is abusive by coercing something like 90% of defendants into unfair plea deals instead of allowing them fair trials. Fair and speedy trials are a fundamental right, and that’s
