I'm curious of when this would actually happen. Some kind of recursive implicit specialization? AFAIK auto x=foo; is just sugar for decltype(foo) x=foo; rather than MLish inference.

I enjoyed this article. It got me thinking that one of the problems in life is that the loss function is unknown: we don't always know beforehand what would make us happy or satisfied. However, it's a lot easier to gauge one'

I don't know if blender is comparable at all. There's a lot more to a game engine than rendering, and AFAIK blender is not even intended for real time animation. Ogre is an open source 3d engine, although I don't know about i

Nowadays MSVC has a built-in cmake integration (a bit like vscode). You can open a folder with CMakeLists.txt and it will mostly work.

If you find a new thing that piques your interest, it's probably good; it's not like you couldn't get back to coding if and when the stars align. On the other hand, dwindling passion with nothing to replace it could be a sign

Many here talk about the complexity of C++. I concede it's a huge language, and not a beautiful one. However, I wouldn't call it that difficult. Being a systems language, once you understand (roughly, sans optimization finesse) ho

This was a great article. Usually I get a distinct "translated from Chinese" vibe, but not here! I thought that the translation must be very good. Can Anyone who has read the original comment?

To expand on what the parent said, what makes it weird that the incentives for people in the community are mixed: there are market incentives (mainly publishers), community incentive (reviews and volunteer expert work), resume incentives (p

I don't think C++ has a dynamic multiple dispatch mechanism. You can craft one with the visitor pattern or some precompiling or macro sheanigans. I'd love to hear about the best way of doing it.

I find that I generally agree. However, I have the intuition that good data-oriented design requires an exceptionally solid understanding of the problem domain. You might say that any good design requires that. I'm not going to disagre

I have no special expertise beyond having read 100k+ pages of Euro/American scifi for fun :) Liu Cixin himself cites western influences like Clarke. Some elements feel exotic to me though, which I assume come from the cultural differen

my favourite intuition about Euler, which is not really an explanation, somewhat tautological, and may or may not be wildly incorrect, but I like it nonetheless: e^x is a function whose value is its rate of change. (De^x=e^x). Now imagine t

The real problem is when different VMs branch differently. You essentially have to run both sides of a branch in serial with masked lanes. The author mentions this and states that the method works only because the VMs are very deterministic

SICP is not so much about a particular language. I think there's a Clojure port of SICP somewhere, and Clojure has a good impedance match with web backends. If you want an "authentic" experience, Scheme would be a good choice
