Tech.li is trying to do that. They've got a long way to go in terms of quality, but they're collaborating with local bloggers writing about startups.

Last I checked, TechCrunch is not a definitive indicator of local innovation and entrepreneurship. It's a blog. They don't heavily cover lots of places. That's not the point. Yadda, yadda, "Go Detroit," etc., but what are you talking about?

You think the rest of the world should call your city, "the city"?? I love the Bay Area, but that's just short-sighted and arrogant.

But will Meg take it in the right direction either? Her experience is consumer-facing... I hope there is an empowered VP or 2 who will make that initiative a success.

Thanks! I'll look into that. Improving the output formatting is my easiest next step. Then the input, so I'll check out that library. You're a pal.

Thanks, Brian. It's been a great experience, and I'm glad for anyone who wants to share in that experience too.

Thank you. There are practical reasons for me to learn python and django, but I'm finding RoR to be very accessible now.

I tried to guess how much it would have cost to pay my friends at their properly hourly rate for the help they freely gave... Yeah, too rich for my blood :) But I gladly accept programming charity.

Thanks. While there was almost too many new things while being handheld through the process--writing my function to setting up rails and git, building a simple app around the function, committing it to git hub and deploying it to Heroku--I

Totally, come on out! We've been growing. There were about 15 of us last night. 6 stayed until sunrise. It's been a great investment of my time.

Thank you for that encouragement. At my startup, our application is built in python and django. I originally wrote the function in python, but my buddy knew ruby/rails better and he could help me deploy it easier that way so I rewrote it in

Thanks. Fixing that link sounds like a tangible next step for improving my "mini-app". I think I'll take it farther just because, like making it work for a couple more stops and setting up a better time input.

I'm not making a point that film investing is good or bad. I submitted this to HN because the audience is tuned to startup and business perspectives. From an outsider's PoV, it is counter intuitive that these major films are technically not

You can fix the game of declaring profit, but you can't fix the game of revenue. And therein lies the problem: management risk represents the ability of a business to draw a profit from revenue. Tax-flight and profit-sharing shenanigans rep

"Paths" seem like the ideal organizing principle for lean web services. I think if my company made this part of our vocabulary, it would indeed make our processes more lean for improving UX, managing marketing and feature prioritization.

Not so subtly requires signing up with your service...I mean, that's not all bad but it's only half a solution as posted. Still quite cool for DIY mobile marketers who are willing to spand 3.5 cents per SMS.

I wanted one too, so I PDF-printed all the pages, combined them into one file and also made a Kindle version: http://bit.ly/o7gfMH It's hosted on Rapidshare. I expect Zed will have a better version soon, but this works in a pinch.

I spent 4 months in NYC unemployed and twiddling my thumbs. I would have been so much happier to run around, putting together desks, dropping off groceries and waiting in line for people. Ad hoc productivity and pay sounds delightful.
