I don't have a valid opinion on the current state of Vapor - 2017 was a long time ago, and the people developing it have worked very hard to improve it in that time.

I tried out Swift + Vapor back in 2017 when I was still a Mac user and a Swift enthusiast. I remember that at the time, I had quite a positive experience with Vapor 2 on Swift 3. I built a backend websocket server[1] for a hobby project[2],

Totally agree that plain header files have many issues, and they are a common source of headache, but can someone explain to me why replacing plaintext, greppable header files with a seemingly very fragile/unportable binary format is a

Very cool that you added support for that too! Now I'll 100% be sourcing a SuperSerial card for my II+!

Now I kind of want to buy a SuperSerial card for my II+ to try this thing out! Too bad any kind of Apple II hardware is really hard to find where I live. Edit: Now that I look at this closer, it looks to me like I'd also need to buy an

Are you really trying to argue that there exist humans that can learn facts at a similar pace to a datacenter running GPT training software on petabytes of scraped data? My point still stands.

No, but the point still stands.

Human authors cannot read and perfectly memorize millions of books in a day, and are therefore not comparable to computers running machine learning software.

The trend is sadly not reversing fast enough. Apple already discontinued their line of slightly too big phones (mini series), and now they only sell oversized phablets. I might not have viable iOS-based hardware options when I upgrade in 2-

Nit to the author: 'rapala' seems like a mistranslation. It is a brand name of a company that makes fishing lures, as far as I can tell. It is not the Finnish word for "to bait", and is therefore only used to refer to a

AFAIK in many countries there is also the double whammy of heavy electric cars eroding the roadways a lot more, but not paying for the increased maintenance costs with petrol tax.

I really worry that we've entered another dark age of software preservation with cryptographic DRM becoming ubiquitous in the last ~15+ years. Many of my formative years were spent browsing the brand new App Store for hours and hours,

So as askbjoernhansen helpfully pointed out, I can't actually just look at the reference timestamp and use that. I was a bit hasty when putting this together, I didn't initially read the spec, I just looked at the NTP response in

You are correct, it seems! Still weird though why Apple's reference timestamp on this particular server is so far off? Thanks for pointing this out!

None of those servers is the specific one with the issue, though.

You're just querying time.apple.com, not 17.253.14.253 specifically.

Yes, but your code isn't specifically querying the timeserver I mentioned, which was 17.253.14.253.

Didn't notice it this time! At work we use bitbucket, and for the last few weeks I've been hacking on a hobby project on a 37 year old Mac. It can't run Git, but it does have Amend[1]! [1] https://amendhub.com/

The Halton sequence[1] is also a very nicely even distribution, and really quick to compute! [1]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halton_sequence

I write C primarily for hobby projects, and I only started with C ~10 years ago, so I'm likely in the minority that considers this a code smell for new C code. I don't want to needlessly extend the scope of my local variables! Dif

Just tried this. I have a slow ARM laptop and a fast x86 desktop. The ARM laptop seems to detect the desktop as specified in the environment variable, but it doesn't accelerate compiling at all. The x86 box sits idle while the ARM lapt

Since the MNT Reform was mentioned in the article, it's worth pointing out that the way they handled this was to have HDMI disabled by default, and the user can then run a script to re-enable HDMI and reboot. When HDMI is disabled, the

It is my understanding that the fixed operating costs (hosting/bandwidth) for this site are quite low. Not sure how much staff they have, but they are doing a really good job.
