Same for me. Managing images in Darktable alone is terrible but with Digikam it’s quite doable.

I am always amazed at how much Aurelian Pierre is able to produce. But I think he is too smart for his own good and also too opinionated to be a good leader of an open source community. Makes me admire Linus Thorvalds even more. He is super

I have tried to get used to Darktable for more than 2 years but finally gave up and went back to Lightroom. For some reason it never clicked with me and made me almost lose interest in photography . And the AI stuff like masking in the lat

You can’t profit off capital if nobody does the labor. We need both roles and both deserve respect. What would Musk do if nobody worked for him? He is probably not going to be able to develop rockets alone in his basement.

I have worked remotely for years after being in the office for years and I get a similar feeling when I go back twice a year. Nothing really has changed but to me it's sort of new so the overall feeling is pretty surreal. Same feeling

It always amazes me that people don’t even check the output of the AI. I am at the moment going through a codebase where the dev told me that he had AI write the tests and that the project is finished. Turns out that some tests are totally

My ex worked at Congress for a few years so I got a little bit of view on the inside. There are a lot of lobbyists who do honest work and try to present correct data. Same for politicians. A lot of them (most?) really want to do a good job

That's the real evil. Once a super PAC has enough money, they don't even have to spend it. The threat alone is enough to get most Congress people back in line.

That sets the bar pretty high for intelligence and by that standard there probably aren't too many humans who have intelligence.

The problem is that a lot of the money doesn't go towards the people/causes it was intended to go but into the pockets of well connected middlemen.

It's kind of weird. There is a lot of propaganda that says * rich people spending money==great investment into the economy and we need to give them more so they make the economy even better * poor people spending money==mindless consum

I think "Tax the rich" is the wrong slogan. What we need is to incentivize sharing the progress we are making in terms of productivity widely instead of all the benefits going to a few. For example some people are talking about gi

Maybe LLM will be to AI what dial up was to the internet. It’s a start that gets things going and attracts investment for better things.

How would you define AI? It seems they can do a lot of useful things. They are very good for processing language and I find Claude Code to be a better coder than a lot of human programmers.

How can anyone say the hypothesis is true? There is absolutely no evidence for it. It’s just a thought experiment.

I don’t think it’s necessary to falsify a statement that has absolutely no evidence for it being true.

I always wonder how the world would look if the bible had said "Respect the earth and all living beings" instead of “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion…"

I have similar thoughts about cave paintings and petroglyphs. Maybe they were done by graffiti teenagers and the elders were complaining about these young vandals.

From what I have read, their armed forces aren’t very motivated. There are stories about pilot trainings where the pilots were a bunch of rich guys that got into their jet, took off with full afterburner, did some fun loops and landed after

The US has managed to combine the worst aspects of universal/socialized health care with the worst aspects of an attempted free market system. It’s quite an achievement.

I don’t really understand the outrage over scalpers. Isn’t this just normal market behavior? Is a retailer that buys things and sells them with a markup a scalper? People seem to be willing to pay crazy prices for events.
