I have an older (but not old) Mini, and I find it almost unusable, as screen elements don’t scale up. For example, Safari browser buttons are stupidly small. Is that still an issue with the Mini?

I’d prefer a neutral account. In conclusion, is it fair to say that the leak was a breach of US protocol or law and was publicly-available information?

Is it limited to hackers, or is it open to all tech-savvy, free-thinking types of HN readers? If need be, I could dust off some mad 6502 assembly language skillz. Oh, and I ran a BBS briefly in the 80s if that helps me qualify. I’m not tech

Coming soon (I’m certain) is the ability for consumer-accessible LLMs and their ilk to analyze millions upon millions of pages of documents. That poses what Pentagon types no doubt perceive as a national security risk.

I agree, and that would be a smaller, less interesting story for the newspaper.

Most of what’s being discussed here is naturally subjective views on propriety. Not many years ago, God forbid should one see an ad for cannabis. Even what is and is not considered a scam is quite subjective, is it not? To what extent are t

Zappa in New York… it is truly amazing to me how exceptionally skilled his ensemble his. Without exaggeration, that’s one of the most skilled ensembles I’ve ever heard, and I’m not just talking rock music.

I never understood Zappa until I listened to his orchestral and chamber music. I thought he was a rock guy and doing the usual trite “with Symphony Orchestra” music that rock guys did. I was wrong. He knows what’s he’s doing, and he’s outst

If this were a different subject matter, the linked article wouldn’t pass muster here. It’s poorly sourced, contains suspect data, and it isn’t worth dissecting. Sex-related topics, I’ve noticed, are not especially successful here in the d

My understanding is that scientific understanding of sleep is relatively limited and tenuous at that, compared to other medical topics. A professor at a sleep lab once joked to me that in fifty (or whenever) years, knowledgeable people will

May I suggest you find not just any doctor but an exceptional one, such as on the level of the late Oliver Sacks (a neurologist). Do not restrict yourself to location. Find and write to physicians who are at the top of their game. Given wha

I’m curious, how did you settle on PC vs Mac? I’m a PC user (Cubase), but there are certain unique advantages to Mac as a platform of course when it comes to music. I’m not wedded to brand personally but use PC as I find it more versatile i

Smartphones (still) offer novelty, and there are no alternatives to some of their useful functions, hence popularity. I’ll be livid if smartphone-type devices are popular a century from now.

Golgo 13 on an NES emulator. What’s not to like? Action, intrigue, first-person perspective, side-scrolling, killing, sex, cigarettes, good music—it’s got it all.

This article is stupid (frankly) and written from an exceptionally prejudiced porn-is-evil perspective. I’m wondering whether it qualifies for flagging.

Given this, and everything else happening in the US, I genuinely don’t understand why a proper coup hasn’t occurred yet. The complacency is astounding.

Intelligence is quite like beauty. We know that both occur as a normal distribution. Some pretend they’re a flat distribution. Attempts to quantify them are in vain.

Good question. No, that’s an area where I don’t get stubble. I assume that’s due to hair growth there being less dense. (I’m not sure why I’m “downvoted” for discussing body grooming in a thread about body grooming.)

I don’t like fancy seats on my loo and prefer a standalone bidet. I loathe having to poo in public toilets. Where available, I’ll buy pre-moistened, disposable towels. If unavailable, I’ll use the sink as a bidet and either wet towels or us

There are a few pieces of music that I avoid listening to too frequently. That’s because I find them to be too beautiful, too profound and—illogically—I don’t want to wear them out. Perhaps also because I find myself consistently in tears w
