Serious question - I don't in any way intend this to sound inflammatory. If you've been here almost 10 years and have set down roots, why haven't you just applied to be a citizen? It sounds like you want to stay, and frankly,

Quite a few people bike here in my anecdotal experience. However, LA suffers from the same problems as SF. Certain areas are becoming impossible to afford, so if you work in or near those areas you have to live very far out and commute a di

I work just down the street from the Santa Monica station. It literally opened a week ago or so, and the author's complaining that people getting on downtown don't yet know which line to take. Well duh! It's brand new! As for

> The market is the problem. That sounds like another way of saying they don't have a product that people value. And for the record they haven't tried nearly all the models possible. This is discussed every time the subject com

Definitely! Nor do I want Google tracking what I'm looking at. Nor do I like the extortion model of, "Well pay us and we won't annoy you."

There were some interesting games that used it. I think the 3rd Journeyman Project used either QTVR or some other similar technology. And didn't the Myst series eventually switch to something like that in later games?

Some of them were fine, but the one that was just a static image where the lines wiggled a little was really gratuitous. Horribly distracting.

In film, this is the "Heaven's Gate" problem. [0] As for your last paragraph, I wouldn't say that being small and focused means being "safe". In fact, it could be quite the opposite. Focus on the one thing that

Is that Messages or is that the phone company that does that? Mine always come from an AT&T email account with some generic sender, like "aehcu2341@att.com".

You've hit several good points here! This looks really cool. I've never used something like this, but I'm seriously considering buying it. I love the single price up front and the privacy of not sending my tracking data to so

They did this to me at LAX once about 12-13 years ago. Oddly enough, the man they handed my computer to was Johnny Cochrane (the lawyer that got OJ out of a murder conviction). They were so starstruck (telling him "Here's your com

This is stupid. The last time I was at the CA DMV, I made an appointment ahead of time, only to have to take a number when I got there. What was the point of making the appointment if I still have to take a number? WTF? I sat there waiting

I'm not familiar with WebRTC. What's the use case there? I can't remember ever wanting to create an in-browser p2p connection on my local network. What would it be used for?

Not really. Many of these people are being found because they're in the background of one person's photo untagged, and they're in the foreground of a friend's photo and tagged. The person in the picture may not even know

Having seen how the Texas board of education works at adding creationist and revisionist junk to science and history text books, I absolutely trust the federal government to do a better job selecting a textbook than most states.

Keep in mind, too, that parents may not want to spend very much on a cell phone for a kid who's likely to drop it, lose it, etc. It may just be that the higher price makes it less likely a younger person will have one.

I know for me I stopped answering the phone altogether about a year or two before the do not call list went into effect. About literally 1/10th of the calls I receive to this day are legit calls I want to take.

I have to disagree to some extent. The call quality on the StarTAC was horrid - it sounded like it was sampled at around 2kHz most of the time. (And to be fair all other cell phones sounded the same at the time.) When calling on my iPhone t
