You just have to be sure and disable most logging if you're using something like mailinabox. Defaults are still pretty loquacious.

If you've ever seen a Dell quote, this wouldn't even be a question. The quotes are HTML tables of random items in no particular order, including such line items as "No Mouse," "Power cable," etc. It is near imp

Yeah, we've got those too. Some have giant parking lots associated, some don't.

That actually varies with how you define "Atlanta"--by city limits, "ITP," or the 28‑county metro...

Interesting. In Atlanta, a large number of "mixed-use" developments over the last 10 or so years are all anchored by one or more big box stores or at least a grocery store.

I love this. Once I realized what was happening, I felt like you had played a great trick on me. I chuckled.

I've done DC<->ATL on both coach and sleeper. Sleeper's nicer, obv, but coach is really fine. It's not super crowded, and the amount of legroom is ridiculous compared to an airplane. Even though it takes 4X as long as a

Learned this technique in uni ca. 2004 and still use it for hobby stuff. It's nice to have a more stable, noncommittal method!

There is productive research into using DNA as a data storage medium. I could see this being used to either increase data density or as an error-correction mechanism.

I don't think you'd need entirely new ribosomes, assuming the new bases are relatively the same size as ATCG. What you'd need more of are aminoacyltransferases, which load amino acids onto tRNAs. You'd also need new tRNA

Hoo boy--huge badges are the worst (4 x 8 ??). Fine when you're standing up, I guess, but they turn into such a poky distraction when you sit down for a talk. I'd rather apply the rest of these rules to the 4x3 or 4x4 badges.

I think you underestimate the quality and power of short read sequencing. Most well-designed sequence-based genotyping assays take into account the length of the read and are easy to read out. (You are thinking of issues with copy number va

99.6% is still awfully dissimilar, depending on what that number means. Thinking about single polymorphisms, of ca. 3 billion bases, that is still 120,000,000 SNPs between twins. Of course, they aren't doing full genome sequencing, and

I agree. I'm more of a beer homebrewer, but I have a mead-making friend that makes some amazing meads. He manages to squirrel them away in his house so that he forgets about bottles. Then, when they turn up years later, they're ju
