I like the comparison of the two languages. As an aside, I don' think the author is a native English speaker. If you read this and have problems with the grammar (noticeable lack of "a"s), read the blog as if Pavel Chekov was reading it you

Yes, synchronous code is the norm for many. In Java, which is where I'm from, this is due to a limitation on the JEE spec. While some servers do provide thread pools (JBoss and WebSphere), that behavior is beyond the spec and breaks the abi

From my limited view, not really. I've worked at multiple large insurance companies (I'm a consultant) over the past 6 years. For many it has created a large set communication disruptions that are hard to overcome. Also, many outsourcing co

This thought is not mine, but I cannot recall the source: NoSQL is a bad name; it should be NotSQL. As a result it is a very large umbrella. When one sees NoSQL it is a safe assumption to think MongoDB. But you could also think DB4O (I like

I'm going to an interview this week. One thing I think that's missing in topics like this is that you are going to work for a company. This means that you need to look beyond the immediate position and take a large view to the business. I'm

How do you read the tech books? I've purchased two books, one on Stripes and the other JavaScript: The Good Parts. I haven't started the JavaScript book on my Kobo, but the Stripes book fails all the time. It freezes the reader. But even wh

Actually this is false. As the graph in the article shows American manufacturing output is much higher now than it was in the past. This is due to automation and a smarter, more empowered work force. While American jobs for simple, brute fo

What if you're a salaried contractor? Meaning you work at a contracting firm as a salaried employee, but go to clients?

But doesn't this basically mean that my constructor has to allow for invalid states? Also, doesn't that mean that another object has the rules for what makes the first object valid? Isn't that a violation of separation of concerns?

It doesn't seem like the non-finally version will necessarily run in every case. In the instance of try/finally, a runtime exception might occur as well as a checked exception. finally will always run. But a.cleaup will not.

How does this work for constructors? I have the habit of guarding against poor input. If a value is null, I'll throw a null pointer exception or an illegal argument exception. While I recognize that both of these unchecked exceptions, I cou

While the general idea is interesting, I think that we've been mislead a bit. My take away is that we could use XQuery for everything. JQuery is used to back the whole thing. While XQuery might be the language that the front end is programm

The problem is that this is not the model that is the most hip. What an iDevice user wants is one click purchase to download system. Apple knows this and knows that requiring such would defeat their competition.

A question I've had is can we daisy chain via WIFI or Bluetooth cellphones to get a signal across the boarder? It might be slow, but things like tweets or small emails would still be relatively useful.
