This looks like it would be a great language to tackle the Project Euler problems with - which is usually a good sign, in my book. A big-int type would be nice though.

Totally off-topic, but why do some people write 'mm' when they mean (I presume) million? From the subject line I initially thought Duck Duck Go had passed 1 millimetre of searches per day.

To be truly great you need both skillsets. Otherwise you're merely good. In my opinion.

At risk of putting words into your mouth, what you're saying here is "some software is open source and that's ok". I couldn't agree more - I've even made a few small contributions to open source projects myself. But the way I read the paren

As a counter-example, there were some great sci fi novels written in the 80s and 90s which I'm only just discovering & I fully believe the author still deserves money for them. How about 14 years from the date at which the author transf

This sort of response, I'm afraid, is why we can't have nice things. The author has taken the time to make their code available and make it as free as possible to reuse. Why should they have to spare a second thought for the roadblocks you

Compiler optimisations aren't always designed to be semantically equivalent - for instance options which control floating point behaviour, like -ffast-math in gcc. That aside, sometimes compilers themselves have bugs as others have pointe

I think you're making the same mistakes as people on that thread. It's a long stretch from "there's some x87 assembly instructions and some function calls that could be inlined" to "they compiled with optimisations off". It's entirely possi

Everything on that page gives me the impression that it's a solid 48hrs; maybe you need to adjust the copy? The explanation posted elsewhere on this thread by mikeinterviewst makes it sound more reasonable. I'm probably not your target audi

This sounds absolutely awful from a candidates point of view. 48 hours is a very long time for what is effectively an extended technical interview. The hackathon format works well for one-off fun events, but no-one should ever be pulling 48

I don't think language flamewars are very interesting - especially ones based on political rather than technical grounds - so let's just say that I should have qualified my statement with "in my opinion" and leave it at that. Re: the origin

I think it's on a par with clean, well commented code: people with the right experience and know-how can do it as they go without any extra effort; others will need to go back and rework it to get to the same point - and that's time that th
