I'm not taking the route of personal insults as I believe this type of comments should not be in HN in first place. Yes, I read it very well. Schmidt indeed mentioned holding the wages down, BUT from the context it's clear they me

If I read it correctly then they are not holding wages down as such, but are trying to avoid employee poaching. Raising wages might be a result of active competition, the question is how much. My guess it would relate to only a small set of

Those tests smell fishy. If they use classic disks then typical average seek time is 8ms. Yet they measured 0,2ms which is ridiculous. My guess is that they used small virtual disks and measured page cache of the underlying host. 128MB limi

Cryptographically speaking you are completely wrong :) You need both: good algorithm and enough entropy. Ad absurdum if you read 1 one byte and feed it into your CSPRNG, you may get up to 256 random streams of 4096 bits, which is easily enu

Once you get enough entropy into your crypto-random generator you are fine for a very, very long time. They basically use the same algorithms that are used for encryption itself (AES, etc.) and are of equal strength. That means if you can&#

Just after the first world word, cigarettes were used as currency in Germany. Currency is simply anything that is accepted as a medium of exchange. That's all what makes currency a currency - doesn't matter if someone doesn't

It might not be NSA itself, but learning that US is willing to implement backdoors in their interest is a big deal - especially in defense industry. You either have the trust or you don't.

Edward doesn't know what money is. Whether it is issued by a government or not is a matter of convenience (or legal issues) and not a condition. Everything can be a currency satisfying these criteria: (1) enough quantity (2) l

Note that the actual number of registers is considerably different than the number of registers you can access through instruction set. They are used via register renaming and optimizations of complex instructions.

This won't be first or last movie that wrongly depicts history :) Braveheart is one example: the section "Historical inaccuracy" takes good 1/3 of the whole Wikipedia article. Amadeus by Miloš Forman is another example.

Please please don't use greylisting. It's not cool. There are too many broken mail servers around and you'll loose emails. I was unfortunate enough that I had to use mail server with greylisting enabled. As a result I regular

No. In fact it's a matter of trust. You can trust Skype that calls are encrypted and cannot be eavesdropped, you can trust Verizon that your cellphone metadata are not passed to government automatically, and you can trust Intel that th
