> Going from plastic soda bottles back to glass ones, for example, would probably be an environmental disaster. This is only true if said glass bottles were not reusable (and their reuse wasn't compelled in some fashion).

It was a vapid response but a sincere criticism: your proposed system is too complex for a layperson.

Yes, it's better for certain end uses. For me, Yamaroku is more like a flaky finishing salt than, say, a Kosher salt (which I only use during the cooking process). I tend to use Kikkoman in most of my marinades because I can't a

Yes. You'd be surprised by how much time people used to spend mindlessly flipping through the glossy coupon sections in the pre-smartphone days. People also used to read shampoo bottles while they pooped before they had phones out of

One of my favorite drinks is the "Champagne Julep". You muddle mint and superfine sugar, add crushed ice, add cognac and yellow chartreuse, top with: seasonal fruits, a sprinkle of superfine sugar, and a float of Rhum Agricole.

>In past decades (from the 50s up to the 90s or 00s) you'd have those things "happening at the edge" become mainstream. I completely agree and I'm not sure many people would recognize how much this has changed. When

I agree that Abraham Lincoln took some questionable measures but that smacks of "whataboutism" and has no bearing whatsoever on this situation. I have difficulty taking your comment in good faith because if there is truth to this

I'm honestly flabbergasted that Mornay sauce isn't more popular, given that it can be stored in the fridge for up to a week: it's the only reliable way to (consistently) achieve perfectly browned cheese on bread. I put a thi

Same thing happened at an office I worked in: removed personal bins from desks, then returned them after the bins in the kitchen and bathrooms were constantly overflowing.

I don't disagree with you entirely but I think "suffering for art" is really just a corollary (admittedly, often taken to its absurd extreme) of the idea that art can't be created in a complacent vacuum.

I completely agree: even my can't-sleep-before-3am backpacking partner falls asleep before 11pm reliably when we were out. In a lot of places it's hard to sleep much past sunrise in a tent.

I've had several friends that grow weed, from pretty sophisticated (albeit <5 plant) hydroponic setups to "guerrilla grows" (tossing seeds into areas unlikely to be discovered and later coming back to check/harvest).
