I think you are too afraid to fail. You are too worried that if you build something shitty (at first), your peers will judge you. I say f k it, just do it and launch. Life is too short to worry.

Facebook did improve a lot. To an ordinary user, G+ does not offer enough to convince them to switch.

Isn't this just like G+'s circles or Facebook's friend-list feature?

I joined a similar startup as employee #2 and I got 1%. I think 0.4% is way too low. However, my startup was after series A and was definitely going to be acquired (based on the talent alone)

AFAIK someone who worked at google researched heavily in the topic of circles. He ended up in facebook. I don't think Google imitated Diaspora as they had given this circles phenomenon adequate research and breakthrough.

I agree that this is unacceptable. But what can you expect? They are obviously not gonna let their MAIN competitor leverage their resources.

Just add them to a "facebook" circle and then when they come on slowly reallocate them to new circles.

This is pretty neat... Wouldn't it be more wonderful if could organize our own hacker dojo (where people just drop by and discuss what they are working on OR brainstorm about cool stuff to build).

Pardon me and I don't want to come off as ignorant, what is the big deal with this? I have been using Google to search hackernews articles by querying `<subject> site:news.ycombinator.com` and it has worked wonders. Since hackernews

All this does is just scrap off whatever public data is available on your friend's profile. It COULD NOT obtain your friend's email addresses. What's the point of having your friend on gmail without their emails?

I dun think it will go. It will be an essential part of our lives (just like google now), but it definitely won't receive so much hype. When Facebook IPOs in the near future, lots of talent will leave to pursue other lucrative opportunities

Naming your product after a really popular internet technique is possibly the stupidest idea I have heard in a while. Did the author even check Comet in the programming world?

I honestly think that Getting accepted to Stanford for undergrad and Getting accepted to HBS for b-school is just preparation for Bootstrapping and selling a startup for $10M (assume 100% ownership). Even though 10M is not a lot in the ente

Look I built a crush notifier too (www.adore.ly). I made a few attempts to even market on HN but I didn't get to front page. You forgot luck is a huge factor in entrepreneurship.
