Agree on first point. No confusion on second point. My argument was that Kafka adds significant complexity and delivery risk because it's software that you must run on hardware/VMs, rather than a fully-managed service. You have to

That's a fair point. But remember, Kafka promises this as long as the underlying VM infrastructure is alive and well. PubSub completely removes this worry, or even the concept of VMs. There are several ways to look at it, but I'd

Can you elaborate on that? PubSub is a fully-managed service, which means that Google SREs are on call making sure things are up. In addition, Pubsub has "guaranteed at-least-once message delivery". In a sense, Google's SREs

I work on BigQuery. I am a little biased, but "canceled product" is FUD, especially for paid services at Google. Especially for BigQuery, which has no equal. Feel free to ping me if you want more info :)

One unique thing about Google Cloud is that most managed services like Load Balancer, PubSub, Datastore, BigQuery etc do not charge you for variability and high-availability. AWS and Azure WILL charge you 10x to scale up and another 3x for

One of the articles mentions that Porsche parent company has Android Auto options. The other mentions that Android Auto has opt-in just like with Android - you start out as opted out. There's also a rebuttal from Form and GM.

I work on BigQuery. Whoever owns Storage, NYC TLC in this case, pays a minimal fee of 2 cents per GB per month for storage. This includes multiple factors of replication/durability. Whoever is doing the querying - this can be you - pay

(disclosure: am work for Google). Not sure on AWS. Google's Network is a vast, secure, and performant Global SDN. This allows us to do some cool things. Therefore, Google has a fundamentally unique value proposition: - Traffic between

At Google Cloud there are two ideas: - Things like BigQuery require less support in general (managed aspect of it = economies of scale of support. Think gmail support req's versus exchange) - Higher levels of support come with dedicate

Interesting is that much of this is externalized through Google Cloud in one way or another: - GFS/Colossus = GCS - Borg = Kubernetes - Dremel = BigQuery - BigTable = BigTable (naturally) - FlumeJava,MapReduce,MillWheel = Dataflow

The idea with Google is that you don't need to worry about which instances you run, at which price, and in which region. For example, with Google you don't need to get a specialized instance type to use it's monster-fast Loca
