No algebraic data types leads to having to add an additional discriminating union type key. Besides that, no type signatures without parameters and other things just produce a lot more code than you'd have in a nicer type system.

Typescript certainly eliminates a class of errors from a JS codebase and can also make development more productive. My issues with it are that it's just an extremely verbose language. Just like all Microsoft languages. All the while l

On the other hand, even those messy real work horses have been adopting functional programming features at a rapid pace over the past decade or two. And many of those features originate from Haskell.

But on React Native there are major platform differences that you also have to bridge. Moreover, as the platform essentially uses each platform's native components through that JSON serialized bridge you'll have UI inconsistencies

May I ask what kind of stuff are you developing with it? I've been working on a WebRTC app myself with it, basically porting my app from RN to Flutter. So far I've encountered no major obstacles, just a little friction which is a

There's a lot of valid points from native advocates though. Like differences in touch features, various sensor APIs, Firebase etc. These may not be serious considerations in simple apps but they make major difference to both the end us

Actually, I don't think we should consider React Native more mature. It's been around for longer sure, but it's significantly more fragile, keeps releasing with regressions, has poor tooling around it except for as far as Rea

This has been exactly my experience. I don't particularly like Dart, but as an SDK Flutter is clearly ahead of RN. RN just keeps feeling too fragile. And the tooling is simply not there whereas Flutter has excellent tooling considering

I get the API differences on these platforms but at least in terms of the UI Flutter seems like a good choice. I'd imagine it'd still be easier to stick to Flutter than write two separate native apps in most cases, it seems to hav

I feel what you're saying is that regardless of how subpar a language is compared to alternatives as long as it has community built specific libraries that solve your problems you're more productive using them than anything else.

Haskell's type system most definitely does catch some of your logical errors. That's exactly why it is so revered. An effective use of a type system such as Haskell's Hindley-Milner can result in a vastly smaller surface area

On the other hand, Haskell's strength is its abstraction power. Elm intentionally lacks (some of) that punch, as do a lot of other languages. But since Elm is a DSL it can afford to cap the abstraction somewhere whereas Haskell is perh

Our ways to hide that logic has been building libraries that handle nearly all of it. But since Haskell's ecosystem is small by comparison a lot of that logic leaks to your own application code. Especially when dealing with something l

You mean that decomposing abstractions with substitution works better in Haskell than in a lot of the other languages because programs in Haskell are essentially (pure) functions and abstractions are built by composing functions?

Are you a native iOS dev? I feel Flutter is a major upgrade over React Native, but perhaps native devs just feel it still falls short on a lot of accounts.
