At my last job they liked to play diplomacy online. With 2 day turn times. I ended up quiting the game because I couldn't think about anything else. Trying to work out which of my colleagues would betray me, and what the best position

The US is not really better for those of us that are not US citizens though. Yes, in theory, US stands for freedom and democracy, but any protections are protections for US citizens, not for Australian or EU citizens. So from a purely right

It seems likely to me that Google will fight that part of it in court. Paying for the content...battle lost. Being forced to surface the content, not so much. I mean, that's like the government saying that not only do you have to pay a

Having spent a bunch of time helping homelessness charities in Australia, I now have a much better understanding of it. Enough to realise that I was technically homeless for a while when I was much younger (circa 2004), in the couch-surfing

Adding 1000lb on each side makes the initial values a rounding error. If you correct your hiring practices to be equal, eventually you do have equal as people churn through the workforce. (Note: Not disagreeing with bringing it into balance

I really dislike the deciding something is an antipattern and then trying to assert that everyone else should change and feel bad. But then, I program a lot by my self, and still use Singletons when it's the simplest way to get somethi

Google Play is a bad example here because you can absolutely use app stores like F-Droid or Amazon to get content onto your device. Arguably, they have problems as well, but it's not an apples to apples (no pun intended) comparison. On

Steam is a counterexample though. You don't have to deliver your PC game through Steam, and many of the big publishers have opted not to. Both Apple and Steam provide discovery and network effects, which help to justify their cut, but,
